Žďár – Village Heritage Reserve, Chapel and Skalní domy

Žďár combines preserved folk architecture with a village square, historic paths and unusual rock spaces. Particularly characteristic is the Village Heritage Reserve, which has included the cottages of Žďár and the village square since 1995. The Chapel and Village Square as a Historic Center

In the upper part of Žďár, the Chapel of the Holy Trinity stands on the village square. The municipality had it built at its own expense in 1784. The chapel’s history did not end with its construction: at the beginning of the 1990s, it was extensively restored and subsequently reconsecrated. Skalní domy in the Deep Gorge

Among Žďár’s notable sights are the so-called “Skalní domy.” They can be seen when passing through the deep gorge from the village square to Dolní Žďár. This perspective makes the rock spaces a distinctive part of the townscape: they do not appear as ordinary buildings, but as spaces integrated into the landscape along the gorge.

For orientation, it is important to distinguish between visibility and access. The “Skalní domy” are not freely accessible because residents use them as storage and work spaces. You should therefore regard them as a remarkable sight along the route, not as freely accessible interiors. A Historical Note from Dolní Žďár

Dolní Žďár also has a historical detail that forms part of its local history: a report dated 2 November 1865 mentions a cast-iron cross beside the village pond on a stone pedestal. The cross adds to the picture of a place whose distinctive features arise from its architecture, paths, gorge and individual historical details.
