Tachov – Cycling Routes, Geology and Local History

Tachov lies at the foot of Tachovský kopec in a gently rolling landscape. The village combines open countryside with cycling routes, geological features and small cultural and historical discoveries. Cycling routes and excursions around Tachov

The long-distance cycle route No. 25 runs through Tachov between Doksy and Dubá. Another connection is provided by local cycle route No. 0015, which leads from Dolní Houska via Ždírec and Tachov to Doksy. The surroundings of Tachov are suitable for hiking and cycling excursions. However, an important point of orientation should be noted: no marked hiking trail passes through Tachov. There is also a rest area with a shelter in the center.

Geology and nature with a distinctive character

Tachovský vrch has geotouristic value. An active quarry on the hill exposed the contact between Permian ignimbrite and Tertiary phonolite. This geological feature also makes the place interesting for visitors who see the landscape not merely as a backdrop, but as the result of its geological history. The Tachovský vrch geological locality can be reached by car without traffic restrictions.

The Lípa v Tachově is another natural feature. It is a protected individual tree and was first placed under protection on December 9, 1994. A distinct local tradition is the so-called Dubský zelený chmel, which was traditionally grown in Tachov.

Historical traces in the village and along the roads

The oldest documented mention of Tachov dates from 1392. Among the notable architectural monuments is the Baroque chapel in Tachov, built between 1793 and 1794 and protected as a cultural monument. The protected former half-timbered schoolhouse No. 38 dates from 1787. Its classification as a former schoolhouse preserves the historic character of the building without presupposing any present-day use.

Smaller monuments also shape the surrounding area. The monument to those who fell in the First World War consists of a sandstone pedestal and a life-size angel figure holding a laurel wreath in its hands. Wayside shrines stand along the roads from Tachov to Ždírec and Okna. The wayside shrine on the road to Ždírec is a sandstone shrine with a niche containing a painted image of the Holy Trinity, as well as a metal cross. Behind the municipality, a cross stands beside an old field track from Tachov towards Zbyn.
