Blíževedly
Blíževedly between Local History and Hiking Landscapes
Blíževedly combines a clearly recognizable local history with cultural details and hiking experiences in the area around Vlhošť and Kokořínsko–Máchův kraj. If you are looking for a place to stay where architectural history and observing nature can be combined, Blíževedly offers several different points of interest. The first surviving historical mention coincides with an important stage of development: Blíževedly were elevated to a market town in 1290.
Historic Buildings in the Town
A walk through Blíževedly leads to several testimonies from different periods. The Baroque Church of St. Wenceslas has a ribbed vault from an original 14th-century chapel. A Baroque Trinity Column dating from 1714 stands in the southern part of the square. The surviving log and half-timbered houses from the 18th and 19th centuries offer a different impression, revealing the town’s historic building tradition.
The Hospodářský dvůr also adds to the picture of the town’s history. It probably has Renaissance origins and underwent significant architectural development during the Baroque period, in the 17th and 18th centuries. The cautious classification of its beginnings is just as much a part of its history as the later structural changes.
Hřídelník and Ronov in the Surrounding Area
Further traces of cultural history can be found in the vicinity of Blíževedly. Hřídelník formerly served, among other purposes, as a prison. A perimeter wall and palace walls have survived there; the surviving palace walls can be accessed through an impressive underground passage. Hřídelník thus offers a distinctive combination of visible wall remains and an unusual entrance. At Ronov, remains of cellars have survived in the vicinity of Blíževedly. Both sites place a different emphasis than the buildings in the town itself and broaden the historical perspective beyond Blíževedly.
Hiking across Vlhošť
The documented hiking routes around Blíževedly showcase various natural and route-related features. One hiking route over Vlhošť passed through a biotope of flower-rich beech forests. Another hike over Vlhošť led as far as Blíževedly. At the end of this hike, the rarer plant Sedmikvítek evropský could be observed. In the context of Kokořínsko–Máchův kraj, another hike also led to Blíževedly. When choosing your excursions, this creates a contrast between historic destinations such as Hřídelník and Ronov and routes focused on forests, landscapes, and observing a distinctive plant species.
