Discover Sassadel: Skiing, Glass and Family Culture
Sassadel at the Foot of the Jizera Mountains
Sassadel features a landscape that is primarily understood through its location and distinctive mountain ridges. Zásada lies at the foot of the Jizera Mountains, below the Černostudniční hřeben ridge. Mount Pustina is in the vicinity of Zásada. Černá Studnice and Maršovicky vrch are also in this nearby area. Mariánská hora is located in the surroundings of Zásada, while Valdštejn Church lies in the wider regional area. These different geographical references help you distinguish conceptually between destinations in the immediate and wider surroundings.
Two Downhill Runs at the Zásada Ski Centrum
For winter sports, the Zásada Ski Centrum is one of the town's specific points of interest. The centre has two downhill runs. The children's slope is approximately 100 m long and suitable for beginners. The second downhill run is approximately 500 m long, clearly laid out and 100 m wide. The two slopes therefore differ significantly in their documented length and description. Anyone wishing to combine their stay with some first descents will find a children's slope and a longer second run here.
Chapel, Glass and Local Craftsmanship
The Chapel of Saint Procopius is the most important monument in Zásada. It was built in the Baroque style in 1749 and contains an ornately carved altar and oil paintings. This makes a single building the focal point in Zásada, where architectural history and interior furnishings can be viewed together. Glassmaking is also part of the local character and continues to be practised in Zásada to this day. Preciosa Ornela's glass bead division is based in Zásada. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1823, is considered a valuable example of vernacular architecture. By prior arrangement, ATLAS Zásada offers visits to the handcrafted production of fashion jewellery and fashion accessories made from small beads.
Family Events and Special Experiences
The traditional Zásadská pouť is a family event held at Kapelní louka next to the Chapel of Saint Procopius. Another regular event is the ZasTenRock family music festival, organised by SK ZÁSADA in Zásada since 2012. It takes place on the grounds of the football stadium. For younger visitors, Loutkové divadlo Prokůpek regularly stages mainly fairy-tale plays for children at the Sokolovna in Zásada. Thus, alongside the landscape and winter sports, tradition, music and child-friendly culture are also on the programme.
Active Days and Suitable Focuses
Bikepark Zásada features numerous jumps and technical obstacles. Together with the downhill runs, this creates a clear sporting focus, while the chapel, vernacular architecture, glass and events offer other ways to explore the area. The choice therefore depends on the experience that particularly interests you in Sassadel, without requiring any specific type of accommodation or amenities.
