Mühlbach at Skalka Reservoir: Cycling Routes and History

Mühlbach takes you into a landscape where water, nature and history lie closely side by side. Pomezí nad Ohří is situated on the right bank of Skalka Reservoir, which is formed by the Ohře River. Skalka Reservoir and protected landscapes

Local cycling route 2243 is 7 km long, easy and runs mainly along paved paths. It is suitable for all types of bicycles and leads from Myslivna towards Pomezí. This provides a short route alongside considerably more extensive cycling routes. The Valdštejnova cycling route is an approximately 75 km circular route that begins in Cheb and passes through Waldsassen, Mitterteich and Marktredwitz. The different lengths help you compare suitable scales for planning your day without treating the routes as equivalent in content.

Cycling route 2164 also has a notable starting point: It begins at the dam of Skalka Reservoir at an intersection with cycling route 36. If you prefer to combine historic places with a longer exploration of the landscape, the surrounding area also offers cultural points of interest. Church and castle site as historic discoveries

The Church of Saint James the Greater is one of the oldest churches in the Cheb region. Its Romanesque foundations are documented as early as the 10th century. Fragments of the original Romanesque structure as well as parts from later Gothic construction phases have been preserved in the building. This makes it possible to trace development across several building periods at a single location.

Another historic trace is the Liebeneck castle site in the cadastral area of Tůně in Pomezí nad Ohří. It is marked by a distinctive triangular terrain formation with a ditch and rampart. Liebeneck Castle was probably founded as early as the 14th century and had been abandoned or fallen into ruin by the 15th century at the latest. The castle site therefore does not represent a preserved structure, but rather a chapter of regional history recognizable in the terrain.
