Trebendorf: Village Culture, Soos and Historical Discoveries

Trebendorf combines an impressive village history with discoveries in the natural sciences. You can explore historic architectural styles, ecclesiastical monuments and a traditional farmstead, or discover geological features, a museum and an educational trail in the Soos Nature Reserve. This gives the area a variety of themes for planning your trip without having to limit yourself to just one way of experiencing it.

Church, Village Monument and Traditional Architecture

St. Lawrence Church in Třebeň was built in 1495 and expanded in the years that followed. As a late Gothic parish church dating from the late 15th century, it was carefully redesigned in the Baroque style between 1758 and 1783. Its architectural history therefore brings together several historical periods in one place. The building thus provides an accessible introduction to the history of the area: its medieval origins and later Baroque transformation can be viewed together.

Nový Drahov, a district of the municipality of Třebeň, is known for its half-timbered farmsteads and has been a village monument reserve since 1995. At one of the farmsteads, you can visit Mr. Werner's pottery workshop. Třebeň itself also contains tangible traces of the region's architectural culture: Houses with the current numbers 1, 3, 15 and 19 retain elements of the folk architecture of the Cheb type. Together with the workshop and the preserved architectural details of the houses, this makes the region's architectural culture visible at several specific locations.

Other prominent monuments include a three-metre-high Marian column, which stands behind the railway line in Třebeň and was completely rebuilt in 1840. In the northwestern part of the municipality of Třebeň, there is also a farming estate dating from the first half of the 19th century. The residential building, barn, farm buildings and shed are grouped around a rectangular courtyard with a gate.

Soos Between the Educational Trail and Geological History

In the Soos Nature Reserve, part of the area can be explored along a signposted and informative educational trail. At the entrance, there is a museum with models of prehistoric reptiles as well as exhibitions on the palaeontological and geological history of the Earth and the Cheb region. One notable geological feature is a diatomite shield, formed from deposits of diatom shells on the bed of a former salt lake. The museum visit thus complements the trail with an explanatory introduction to the formation of the diatomite shield and the geological history of the region.

The Soos Animal Rescue Station also offers its own way of engaging with the region. Part of the station is open to the public. There, visitors receive information about the work of the Soos Animal Rescue Station and the animal species it cares for.

Getting to Třebeň and Exploring the Area

For travel by public transport, Třebeň railway station is located on route 146 between Cheb and Luby u Chebu and is part of the integrated IDOK transport system. This connection provides a practical reference point if you want to organise visits to historic buildings, the educational trail and the museum as separate parts of a day.
