Haslau combines documented cycling experiences with unusual natural discoveries and a distinctive historic townscape. The local Cycle Route 2065 between Vojtanov, Hazlov and Polná is 9 kilometers long, or 14 kilometers with detours. It is suitable for cross and trekking bikes. The two documented route lengths make tour planning clearer without anticipating a specific travel time or level of difficulty. This makes it possible to adapt the choice of route to a shorter outing or to a longer day in the saddle.

Another option is local Cycle Route 2064, which is suitable for all types of bicycles. From this route, a turnoff at the golfers’ clubhouse leads to the U Cihelny natural monument. The “Natural and Historical Attractions of the Smrčiny Mountains, Františkovy Lázně” cycling tour also passes through Hazlov. This allows cycling, nature observation and historical discoveries to be incorporated into different tour ideas.

U Cihelny and the Hazlovský potok Valley

The U Cihelny natural monument lies in the valley of the Hazlovský potok. It contains a rare occurrence of the mineral brown vesuvianite. The mineral deposit is considered unique of its kind throughout Europe and is protected as a natural monument. The turnoff from Cycle Route 2064 makes this site a clearly definable nature theme for a day’s itinerary, without extending its significance beyond its documented protected status.

Castle-palace complex and ecclesiastical architectural history

Hazlov’s castle-palace complex lies in the heart of the town. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is the dominant structure of the palace complex. Its nave was built between 1687 and 1688 between the Romanesque tower and the western Gothic palace. The ruins of a castle that was converted into a palace are designated in Hazlov as a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This sequence of medieval structural elements and the nave built later gives the townscape a precisely traceable historical dimension.

Above Hazlov, a monument to those who fell in the First World War stands on Calvary Hill. Catholic services are regularly held in the Roman Catholic church. Hazlovský pěšák is an event organized by Pivní skauti Hazlov in Hazlov.
