Dražov: Cycling Route, Uhelný vrch and Local History
Dražov between Cycling Route, Landscape and Local History
Dražov brings cycling, landscape and local history together within a closely connected thematic area. Local Cycling Route No. 2026 from Karlovy Vary to Chodov u Bečova runs through the village. Uhelný vrch is the highest point of the cadastral area of Dražov, while the Chapel of St. Vitus and several mills provide tangible evidence of the village's history. This gives you different points of connection for a trip, without reducing Dražov to just one sight.
A Cycling Route with Two Directions
Local Cycling Route No. 2026 runs through Dražov from Karlovy Vary to Chodov u Bečova. It is easy in the direction of Karlovy Vary and moderately difficult in the opposite direction. The direction is therefore important when classifying the route: The same route is rated differently depending on the direction of travel. When preparing your route choice, you can consider Dražov as a section of this connection and take the two directional ratings into account separately.
Uhelný vrch and the Slavkovský les
Uhelný vrch (Traben) reaches 733 m above sea level and is the highest point of the cadastral area of Dražov. At the same time, it is one of the prominent peaks of the Slavkovský les, which are shaped by bodies of basic rocks from the Tertiary period. The elevation and geological classification complement each other: The mountain is described both as a specific point in the local landscape and as part of a geologically distinctive landscape area.
The Chapel of St. Vitus
The Chapel of St. Vitus stands in the centre of Dražov. It is a Late Baroque chapel built in 1763–1766 on a terrace beside the sloping village square in the centre of Dražov. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 3 May 1958. The chapel is occasionally accessible. This information is important when planning your visit: An interior visit is therefore not described as being possible at all times.
Mills between Dolní Dražov and the Village Centre
Nesenský mlýn has survived without major alterations. The mill lies 500 m north of the settlement of Dolní Dražov on the Dražovský potok watercourse. Milorův mlýn, by contrast, is located in the centre of the settlement and is an abandoned mill. When placing the mills in the context of local history, you therefore distinguish between a preserved site by the water and an abandoned mill in the settlement centre.
Iron Ore and the Feast of St. Vitus
The mining of iron ore is also part of the history of the area. The ore was transported to the smelters in Pila. Another historical trace is the local church feast of St. Vitus: It was celebrated on the third Sunday in June and developed into a popular festival with a fairground character. As a former festive tradition, it adds religiously influenced customs to the local history, while the mining of ore points to the area's economic past.
