Stiedra Among Forests, Ponds and History

Štědrá also offers several historic sites: a former Gothic fortress, a Baroque castle, an older castle complex and the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Castles, Fortresses and Štědrá Castle

Near Štědrá, the small Gothic castle of Štědrý Hrádek once stood on a rugged rocky spur above the Borecký stream. It had two moats and was probably founded in the mid-14th century. The castle is therefore one of the historic traces that connect the area with the Middle Ages, extending beyond its more recent local history.

The Baroque castle was built in the western part of Štědrá between 1730 and 1734. Count Ferdinand Jakub Kokořovec z Kokořova commissioned its construction, possibly according to a design by the architect Tomáš Haffenecker. After a fire in 1744, the castle was restored and enlarged in the Late Baroque style. It is occasionally open to the public during cultural events.

Another historic site is the Gothic Štědrá fortress. It was founded no later than the beginning of the 13th century on a slope in the eastern part of the village of Štědrá. Extensive remains of the fortifications have survived from the former fortress to this day. Those interested in older settlement history and visible architectural traces will find a distinct aspect of the area here.

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

The originally Gothic parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built in the first third of the 14th century west of the village square, in the upper part of the municipality. After a fire in 1680, it was rebuilt and enlarged in the Baroque style; its exterior façades and windows were renovated in 1718. A complete reconstruction took place after 1995. The church is occasionally accessible, so a possible visit is among the cultural activities in Štědrá that are not available at all times.

Forests, Ponds, Cycling and Getting There

The surroundings of Štědrá, shaped by forests and numerous ponds, are particularly suitable for cycling. In addition to its historic sites, Stiedra therefore offers a landscape-focused experience for days when you want to combine culture and physical activity. From the direction of Žlutice or Toužim, Štědrá can be reached by both bus and train. These travel options help with orientation when you plan your accommodation and excursions around different starting points.
