Borovnička: Trails, Culture and Local History

Borovnička is a settlement with widely scattered buildings, most of which lie in the valley of the Borecký potok. The Borecký potok is a right-bank tributary of the Labe. This location gives Borovnička a distinct landscape character and connects the local history with trails, waterways and traces of earlier work. Trails through Borovnička and the Podkrkonoší region

Borovnička has a railway stop and is also served by buses. A green-marked hiking trail runs through Borovnička, as does cycle route No. 4135. A forest rest area was established beside this cycle route in 2020. Cesta kamene provides a broader historical connection. Borovnička is one of the stations along this route, which links significant sites associated with the extraction and processing of stone in the Podkrkonoší region. This makes it possible to connect hiking, cycling and regional cultural history with specific places when planning your trip.

Church and memorial sites

The most distinctive building in the settlement is the Kostel Božského srdce Páně church, also known as Nejsvětějšího Srdce Ježíšova. Construction began in 1928, and the church was consecrated in 1933. The church was built in the pseudo-Gothic style and is a defining landmark of Borovnička. The more recent history of remembrance includes the monument to those who fell in the First World War. It bears the names of 55 war victims, was completely destroyed and restored by the municipality in 2021.

Historical traces in the landscape

Even smaller monuments tell stories of different eras. By the school stands a sculpture group of the Holy Trinity with an inscription from 1891 and a restoration inscription from 1904. The Červený kříž cross commemorates the municipality of Vidovice, which was burned down by the Swedes during the Thirty Years' War. In the area around Borovnička, flax was grown, combed, spun and woven in the 19th century. The monuments and the history of flax cultivation thus connect religious and war-related memories with a former branch of work in the rural surroundings of Borovnička.

Mill, sawmill and Klebš

Linhartův mlýn a pila are already shown on the map from the First Military Survey of 1764–1768. The complex was rebuilt in 1926 and renovated again in 2006. At Klebš, on the edge of the forest, there is a sculpture group of Saint John the Baptist. It bears a biblical verse in German as well as an inscription from 1863. Together with the church, the monument and the marked trails, this creates a diverse picture of Borovnička that combines ties to nature with local history.
