Hořejší Vrchlabí combines impressive natural formations, historic architecture and its own beer tradition. Particularly characteristic is the Labská Gorge: it is protected as a natural monument in the cadastral area of Hořejší Vrchlabi and vividly demonstrates how water can shape a landscape. The two-storey building was partly constructed using log-building techniques; a gallery runs around part of the living room, which was also built using log construction. At the same time, the old smithy is a protected national monument and is regarded as a valuable example of the traditional architecture of the Krkonoše Mountains. Its construction can be described as a wooden house on a masonry ground floor. For visitors interested in regional building styles and historic craft sites, it is therefore a particularly tangible point of interest in the history of the village.

Opposite the smithy stands the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. Built in 1709, the Baroque chapel has been protected as a national monument since 1958. Its most striking detail is a massive octagonal dome topped by a lantern with wooden columns. The smithy and chapel thus represent two different historical forms of expression: traditional rural architecture on the one hand and Baroque ecclesiastical architecture on the other.

Beer Tradition and Regional History

A culinary aspect complements the natural and cultural experiences. The Hendrych family brewery has been producing beer since September 2012 and offers regular and limited batches in kegs and bottles. In Vrchlabi-Hořejší, the Hendrych brewery also operates a taproom open to visitors, offering both draught and bottled beer. This allows visitors to expand their exploration of the area with a specifically documented insight into the regional brewing tradition.

The history of transport through the mountains is also present in Hořejší Vrchlabi. A remnant of the old Silesian Stezka through the Krkonoše Mountains has survived to this day from Hořejší Vrchlabi under the name “Kamenná cesta”.
