Hostinné – Old Town, Art and Scenic Trails

Hostinné combines a preserved medieval urban structure with historic burgher houses, ancient art, distinctive buildings and trails offering views of the Krkonoše Mountains. This gives visitors a variety of reasons to travel here: you can walk through the historic town centre, learn about the history of the Franciscan monastery, view a collection of ancient sculptures or choose an educational trail focusing on nature and scenic viewpoints.

Historic Town Centre with Distinctive Buildings

The historic town centre of Hostinné was declared an urban heritage conservation area because of its preserved medieval urban structure and historic burgher houses. Its characteristic features include the extensive preserved arcades and the medieval layouts of the houses. The town hall tower was added to the town hall in the 16th century, and its viewing walkway provides another perspective of the town.

The Baroque Franciscan monastery is also part of Hostinné’s history. It was built between 1677 and 1684 and served as a pharmacy, hospital and place of spiritual care. Its former uses make the building not only a historic structure, but also a place where different functions of earlier town life can be understood.

Ancient Art and Views from Above

The Gallery of Ancient Art presents the development of ancient sculpture through precise casts of works whose originals are held in major museums around the world. The collection is open year-round to individual visitors and groups. This makes it possible to combine a visit with a town tour regardless of the season.

The viewing walkway of the town hall tower is accessible via the information centre for a symbolic entrance fee and offers a bird’s-eye view of Hostinné. The transition between the historic streets and the view from above makes it possible to experience the town’s structure in different ways.

Mravenčí Trail: Nature, Learning and Panoramas

The Mravenčí Trail is a 6.0-kilometre educational trail with a walking time of approximately two hours and 151 metres of elevation gain. Twelve information panels combine nature, education and entertainment. There are also viewpoints offering panoramas of Hostinné and the Krkonoše Mountains. The length, approximate walking time and elevation gain provide concrete guidance for planning your day, while the panels introduce additional topics along the route.

Town Game and Annual Tradition

With the town game Putování panstvím obrů, you can explore Hostinné in a playful way. At the information centre, visitors receive a map with pictures and tasks leading to the most remarkable places in Hostinné. Another special feature is the Porciuncule pilgrimage, which takes place in Hostinné every year on the first weekend of August.

Hostinné has a railway stop served by trains on the Trutnov–Vrchlabí route. Depending on your focus, you can combine historic sights, the town hall tower viewpoint, the gallery and the Mravenčí Trail as different highlights of your visit.
