Přepychy: Hiking Trail to the Dřízeňské Valley and Local History

Přepychy combines direct access to the landscape with remarkable evidence of local history. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Přepychy into the Dřízeňské Valley. There you will find a Stations of the Cross with 14 stations; the 14th station is carved directly into the rock as the Holy Sepulchre. In this way, the village combines a route through the landscape with a sacred destination in the valley.

The Dřízeňské Valley as an Experience in Its Own Right

At the “Ve skalách” rest area above Přepychy, there is free parking for up to five vehicles. This provides a concrete starting point for planning your own day. The rest area is located above Přepychy, and the hiking trail leads from the village into the valley.

Underground History and Sacred Buildings

There is also an unusual historical detail in the village itself: the underground passage in Přepychy is exceptionally well preserved and probably originated between the 14th and 16th centuries. On 11 June 2016, the passage was ceremonially opened to the public for the first time. The passage is therefore one of the distinct themes of Přepychy’s local history. Several centuries thus lie between its probable construction and its first opening to the public.

The sacred heritage also includes the Kostel sv. Prokopa church. Its basic architectural form dates from 1574 and has survived to this day. Exceptions are the later Baroque interior and the present-day tower, which was rebuilt about 350 years later. The architectural form, Baroque interior and later rebuilding of the tower mark three distinct chronological layers of the church.

The church also has the Václav bell. It dates from the mid-16th century and survived the confiscation of bells for weapons production during both world wars. The Panny Marie Chapel was also built near a spring in 1889. Together, these landmarks show that the history of Přepychy is not limited to a single building, but encompasses different places and periods. The church and bell point to the 16th century, while the chapel, built in 1889, represents a later point of reference.

Events and Local Traditions

Another facet of the village is the brass music festival “Přepychy Karla Pšeničného”. The festival took place on 5 July 2021 as its 11th edition, on 5 July 2025 as its 15th edition and on 5 July 2026 as its 16th edition.

Fishing competitions called “Zlatý karas” are also held in Přepychy.
