Pohoří Between the Stream, Church and Nature

Pohoří reveals its character through a combination of local history, events and landscape. The Zlatý Crk stream flows through Pohoří, while the Church of St John the Baptist stands out as a place of remembrance for earlier generations and as the village’s natural landmark. This creates a destination for you that is not defined by a single attraction alone: the watercourse, church interior, nature and culture, and hiking are among the different facets you can consider when choosing accommodation and planning your days.

Church and Events at the Nature and Culture Centre

The Church of St John the Baptist is also a regular focal point throughout the year. A Mass is held there every Sunday. Anyone interested in local culture will find another specific meeting place at the Nature and Culture Centre (PKS). The Nature and Culture Centre is located in the centre of Pohoří. It includes a covered stage, an auditorium, visitor toilets, a kiosk and a wooden pavilion.

From June to August, the traditional Pohořské hudební večery take place at the PKS. This series of events adds a seasonal cultural focus to the character of the village. Another regional tradition is Pohořský střevíček, a dance competition organised by the local primary school. Its regional traditional character distinguishes it from an ordinary programme of events and makes it an independent cultural detail of Pohoří.

Water Landscape and Protected Nature

The history of the Zlatý Crk is also part of the landscape. The streambed, including the three ponds fed by the Zlatý Crk, was completely cleared and restored after the severe flooding in July 1998. This information describes not only the course of the stream but also the transformation of the water landscape following a major event.

The Natura 2000 site Zbytka lies in the wider area around Pohoří. It is home to ash-alder floodplain forests, purple moor-grass meadows and other riverside floodplain forests. There is also a population of fire-bellied toads. In Pohoří itself, there is a permanent breeding nest of the white stork. Nature-interested visitors therefore have several different subjects to explore: the waterways and ponds in the village, the floodplain landscapes in the wider area and the observation of a permanently established breeding site.

Hiking and Orientation Locally

The Klub českých turistů in Pohoří focuses primarily on hiking, with routes of up to 20 km. The club’s activities are open to anyone interested in hiking; membership is not required. This provides a documented indication of the distances involved for your travel planning, without requiring you to commit to an exclusively cultural programme.

Pohoří is served by a bus network that runs throughout the entire municipality. This form of local transport is just as relevant for orientation as the location of the Nature and Culture Centre in the centre. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether you want to focus primarily on events and the cultural centre of the village, the water and natural areas, or hiking.
