Mokré between monuments, nature, and local life

Mokré brings together several clearly distinct local features. In the village centre stands the Svatý kříž monument, the Lipová alej Mistra Jana Husa lime-tree avenue is located at the municipal cemetery, and the Na Mělích grove lies between Městec and Mokré. The Lípa bludičky Mokřinky lime tree stands at an important crossroads in an area with extensive wetlands. There is also the Knihovna U Mokřinky library. A monument in the village centre

Svatý kříž is the most significant local monument in Mokré. The structure was erected in 1861 in the centre of Mokré. Its historical connection is therefore with the centre of the municipality, while the lime-tree avenue belongs to the municipal cemetery and forms a distinct commemorative site. The central structure and the row of trees planted at the cemetery thus represent two different forms of historical connection to the locality.

The Lipová alej Mistra Jana Husa lime-tree avenue

The Lipová alej Mistra Jana Husa lime-tree avenue was planted in 1915 to commemorate the death of Mistr Jan Hus. It is located in the cadastral area of Mokré at the municipal cemetery and consists of small-leaved lime trees (Tilia cordata). The avenue thus combines a specific commemorative occasion with a single tree species and a location at the municipal cemetery. While Svatý kříž stands in the village centre, this commemorative site is located at the municipal cemetery.

A grove and distinctive trees

The Na Mělích grove is also known as Chmelnice and Na Chmelích and lies between Městec and Mokré. It is a preserved thermophilous oak-hornbeam woodland with an understorey of rare plants. Oaks and hornbeams are the characteristic tree species of this woodland community. “Thermophilous” refers to a woodland community that favours warm site conditions. The woodland structure and rare understorey give this natural area a different character from the single tree in the wetland landscape.

In the case of the lime tree, the crossroads and the wetlands are the main features. Na Mělích, by contrast, is a woodland area between two villages; Lípa bludičky Mokřinky stands as a single tree at a crossroads. The two natural features therefore differ in landscape form and location. The grove combines a woodland type with its location between Městec and Mokré, while the lime tree designates the individual site in the area with extensive wetlands.

Cultural life with local history

The local history also includes the Knihovna U Mokřinky library, which was founded in 1889. It supports and organises cultural and social life in Mokré. The library is therefore a distinct cultural and social focal point in the village. Alongside the monument and landscape, it adds a place shaped by its cultural and social role.

The 2026 programme lists the events “Slíváci: New Year’s Walk Around Mokré” and “Čajovna u bludičky: Tea House with Chocolate”.
