Licno – Church, Local History and Trails in the Foothills

Lično lies in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains and combines notable local history with walks, a signposted cycle route and events throughout the year. If you are looking for accommodation in Licno, you can get to know the village as a starting point for a variety of holiday days: cultural and historical discoveries, routes through the surrounding area and local events are available as different facets of your stay.

Church and Local History

The Church of Zvěstování Páně, together with part of its supporting wall, is protected as a cultural monument. It was probably built in the Gothic style in the second half of the 14th century, remodelled in the late Gothic style in 1594 and extensively redesigned in the Baroque style between 1777 and 1780. Zvěstování Páně is the parish church of Lično and is open to visitors. This allows you to encounter several documented construction phases in a single religious building.

Another point of reference in the village's history is Mariánský dvůr, which is considered the original centre of Lično. Mariánský dvůr originally had a wooden fortress, which was converted into a stone manor house in the first half of the 17th century. The church and historic village centre give your stay a cultural perspective without requiring you to plan your days exclusively around sightseeing.

Walks and Cycling

The picturesque countryside around Lično invites you to go for walks. The orange walking route leads through “Pekelice”, starts from the Sokolovna in Lično and is 4.8 km long. For a longer route, cycle route 4167 passes through Lično; it runs from Třebešov to Očelice and is 18 km long. The different lengths help you clearly distinguish between the two options when planning your day.

Events Throughout the Year

In February, Lično hosts the Masopustní průvod, at Easter the Velikonoční pochod, and in May the Ličenské kolečko. Noc kostelů follows in June, Posvícení in August and an Adventní koncert in December. These events retain their Czech names and each marks a different point in the village's event calendar.

Ličenské kácení máje is a recurring public spring event in Lično. At the 2024 event, there was a bonfire, grilled sausages, drinks, a raffle for a maypole crown and a children's programme. Ličenský Braňáček is a recurring local competition in Lično; the 2024 event took place in the sports complex.

Planning Your Stay

When choosing your accommodation in Licno, you can consider whether you would like to focus on the accessible church and local history, the 4.8 km walking route or the 18 km cycle route. The nearest railway connections are in Týniště nad Orlicí and, where applicable, in Častolovice or Čestice. This keeps culture, nature, cycling and seasonal events visible as distinct criteria for choosing your stay.
