České Meziříčí combines a striking Baroque parish church with Hrnčířův mlýn, protected as a cultural monument, a history of settlement, and the watercourses of the Dědina and Zlatý potok. This makes the town suitable for travellers who, during their stay in the Czech Republic, are looking not only for accommodation but also for specific points of connection with culture, landscape and shared discoveries. Depending on your focus, you can plan your trip primarily around history, a scheduled event or a cycling stage.

St. Catherine’s Church: Baroque architectural history in the townscape

The present-day parish church of St. Catherine was built from 1748 to 1752. The foundation stone was laid on 8 September 1748, and the new building was consecrated on 25 November 1752. The highly visible church stands approximately in the centre of České Meziříčí, by the road, and therefore provides a clear point of orientation in the townscape.

The period in which the building was created is also evident inside: the parish church has Baroque interior furnishings, including the high altar, pulpit and inventory, which were made at the same time as the building. Travellers interested in church architecture, Baroque design and historical details can take this focus into account when planning their trip. For families, this offers an accessible way into history, because the construction period, furnishings and townscape can be connected without reducing the stay to a mere sightseeing checklist.

Hrnčířův mlýn and the history of the town

A second cultural highlight is Hrnčířův mlýn. The mill was first mentioned in 1598 in the land register of the Opočno estate and has been protected as a cultural monument since 2 May 2019. The building retains an almost completely preserved, industrially manufactured milling technology from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This combination of an earlier written reference and later technology makes Hrnčířův mlýn an independent historical topic.

The settlement of Králův Les is also part of the broader historical context. It was founded by Saxon colonists and first mentioned in 1300. At the end of the 13th century, the settlement was established at a ford on a branch of the important Kłodzko–Polish country road. Such details offer a glimpse into the development of settlements, routes and crossings without requiring you to choose a large city as your base.

The Dědina, Zlatý potok and a cycling connection

České Meziříčí lies on the Dědina. The Zlatý potok flows into the Dědina from the direction of Opočno. These geographical features give the town a clear landscape setting and complement the historical topics with an appreciation of the region’s watercourses. A cycle path connects Rohenice with České Meziříčí.

The traditional Selská jízda will also take place in the municipality of České Meziříčí in 2026. If you would like to link your stay to a specific cultural occasion, this event is an additional factor to consider when planning the timing of your trip. When searching for accommodation, you can therefore weigh up a more strongly cultural and historical stay, a trip with a regional landscape focus, or plans centred around cycling or the Selská jízda.
