Nové Mesto Nad Metují

Nové Město nad Metují combines historic urban spaces with paths through valleys and landscapes. Historic Squares, Church and Castle

An important landmark is the Church of the Holy Trinity. Its construction was completed in 1519. Most of its furnishings date from the 17th century; the organ was made by Jiří Weindt from Křešov in 1656.

The northern side of Husovo náměstí also tells a story of historic design and later preservation. It was reconstructed from 1951 to 1954 in Renaissance forms dating from the 1530s. The characteristic features are the “swallowtail” gables. During this reconstruction, the remains of a water reservoir were also uncovered in 2009 near the Monument to the Holy Trinity.

Nové Město nad Metují Castle offers two sightseeing tours: “Zámecké interiéry” and “Od půdy po sklep”. The City Museum focuses on the history, crafts and nature of the region. Its notable holdings include a collection of PRIM wristwatches, featuring the oldest, largest and smallest watch in the collection. The Municipal Gallery Zázvorka provides a different cultural focus: On two floors, it presents changing year-round exhibitions of paintings, photography, woodcuts and sculptures. A visit to the museum combines regional history, crafts and nature, while the gallery focuses on changing art in several forms.

Walking Trails Through Forest and Valley

The Městský vycházkový okruh urban walking circuit begins near the bus station and follows the green-and-white markings of the local circuit trail. It descends through deciduous forest into the Metuje Valley. The transition from the urban starting point through the deciduous forest down into the Metuje Valley thus combines different landscape impressions within one continuous circular route. From the Dvořáčkova vyhlídka viewpoint, there is a view across the Metuje Valley to Nové Město nad Metují Castle.

The Obůrka Klopotov educational trail provides information about the natural and historical features of the Klopotov Valley. Information panels, interactive elements for children and basic visitor facilities are part of what it offers. For an outing with children, this trail therefore combines nature observation with clear, informative displays. The deep valley of the Klopotovský and Bohdašínský streams connects Nové Město nad Metují and Slavoňov via a pleasant walking trail.
