Discover Všestary
Všestary combines prehistory, the battlefield landscape of Chlum and clearly identifiable historical traces with cycling routes and options for different kinds of holidays. The town is located around 7 km west of Hradec Králové on the I/35 road. Those who choose Všestary as their base will therefore find not only individual sights, but also several clearly distinct themes for a stay: military history, archaeology, sacred architecture, culture and outdoor activities.
Chlum battlefield and museum experiences
The Muzeum války 1866 presents the conflict through the personal stories of soldiers and civilians. A special addition is the mobile augmented-reality experience, which makes artillery positions, trenches and troop movements visible in the battlefield landscape. Guided tours of the exhibition and battlefield can be booked. This means that a visit can be explored either through personal impressions or through a guided interpretation of the historic sites. The Chlum battlefield contains almost 500 monuments. They form the largest collection of funerary architecture in the Czech Republic. The Chlum battlefield complex in the Všestary municipal area also includes the Muzeum války 1866. History enthusiasts can therefore experience the exhibition, landscape and monuments as a connected subject of a visit, without equating the different forms of remembrance.Church, local history and culture
The Church of the Holy Trinity is a protected cultural monument and an urban landmark of Všestary and its surroundings. The present-day Neoclassical church was built in 1842–1843 after the earlier church was demolished, with the exception of its tower. The tower preserves Gothic and Renaissance elements. Všestary was founded on the Melounka stream and along an old trade route connecting Hradec Králové with Hořice and Jičín. This local history complements the better-known themes associated with Chlum and prehistory. The Lesní divadlo Chlum in the Všestary municipal area offers theatre and music programmes. According to local tradition, it was founded in the early 1920s as a venue for amateur performances. Alongside the museum and monuments, visitors can therefore also enjoy a cultural venue whose history is connected with local tradition.Archaeopark and discoveries for different age groups
There is evidence of prehistoric settlement in Všestary. The Archeopark pravěku Všestary brings this subject to life in a three-storey exhibition featuring a large model of prehistoric landscapes and human settlements. The complex also includes a main exhibition on prehistory, an outdoor exhibition, examples of prehistoric buildings – including a Neolithic house and a Chalcolithic house – as well as an exhibition on domestic animals. Regular programmes on a variety of themes present life in prehistory to visitors in an engaging way. When planning a trip with children, Všestary also offers a swimming pool with swimming courses for children from six months of age through to competitive swimmers. This complements the cultural attractions with a sporting option, without limiting the town to a single holiday theme.Cycling routes from Všestary
The 20 km cycling route “Chlum přes Hoříněves” starts at Všestary railway station and leads via Rozběřice back to Všestary. A longer alternative is the 26 km “Dlouhý okruh bitvou r. 1866”. It also starts in Všestary, leads to Chlum and returns via Rozběřice. Both routes connect the starting point with the history of the surrounding area, but differ in length and route layout. A cycling educational trail leads from Hradec Králové to the Archeopark pravěku Všestary and stops at archaeological sites. The Archaeopark is a 15-minute walk from Všestary railway station. This orientation is particularly useful when choosing accommodation or a place to stay if you want to combine museum visits, a cycling trip and access by train in the same travel plan.
