Lužany nad Trotinou lies in the Trotina Valley, about 20 kilometres north of Hradec Králové. The village is in the southwest of the Hustířanka microregion. If you are looking for hotels in Luzany Nad Trotinou, you can plan your trip around the river landscape, cycling, or the village’s history. The municipality comprises the two local districts of Lužany and Lhota.

The Trotina Valley and outdoor activities

The Trotina flows through the municipal area. It rises below Mount Zvičina and flows into the Elbe at Lochenice. Both its source and its mouth are outside the place described here. For Lužany itself, the location in the valley of this small river is characteristic. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between spending time in the village and visiting other places in the river area.

Lužany is connected to an educational cycling trail. Before setting out on a bike ride, check the current route and choose a distance that suits you. In winter, the municipality describes the gently undulating surroundings as suitable for cross-country skiing. Whether a trip is possible depends on actual snow and terrain conditions; check these before setting out.

Traces of the village’s medieval history

Lužany’s history leads back to a former fortress. The knight Hašek of the Střížek of Koloděj family lived there between 1405 and 1410. Around 1478, his descendant Hašek Střížek of Lužany is named as its owner. These recorded names and dates form part of the village’s history. They do not describe a current museum operation or indicate that a castle site is currently open to visitors.

The beginnings of local associations date from a later period: the volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1889, and the Sokol sports association was established in 1921. Both foundations are part of the village’s more recent history and complement the medieval records with the development of community life.

The memorial in the village centre

The memorial to the victims of the First World War, erected in 1923, stands at the crossroads in the centre. Seventy-eight men from Lužany were called up for military service. Thirteen of them died in the war or from its consequences. The memorial commemorates these residents and provides a specific point of reference for a walk focused on local history. The figures refer to the municipality and this war; they are not a general casualty count for the region.

Community life and your stay

The village has a municipal library. A renovated inn serves as a community hall for social and cultural activities. There is also a playground near the municipal office. If you want to attend events or use local facilities, check current opening times and offerings in advance. When choosing your hotel, you can then consider whether proximity to the village centre or your planned excursions matters more to you.
