Pšánky – Pond, Village History and Cycling Route

Pšánky offers several clear points of interest for a trip: the village preserves traces of its history, has a pond with a diverse fish population, and is crossed by KČT Cycling Route No. 4293. The village landscape also features distinctive elements, while events shape the character of the place at different times. Those who are looking for more than just accommodation when choosing where to stay will find history, water, local traditions and a designated cycling connection all in one place.

History from Blšany to Pšánky

The village's history dates back to the Middle Ages. Pšánky was originally called Blšany. The village was founded in the 12th or 13th century on the grounds of an estate in Petrovičky. One particularly precisely dated episode took place in 1511: at that time, Hašek Zvířetnický of Vantenberk sold the Petrovičky fortress with its farmstead and the entire village of Pšánky to Jan Krupý of Probluz.

Distinctive Features of the Village Landscape

One of the defining elements of the village landscape is the sandstone sculpture of Saint John of Nepomuk. The sandstone sculpture stands on a tall, two-part pedestal. The pedestal bears an inscription with a chronogram from 1719, meaning an inscription in which a year is recorded in a special form. A bell tower and a depiction of the Crucifixion add to the village landscape. Together, these elements provide several clearly identifiable cultural points of reference without requiring an extensive list of sights.

Pond, Angling and Annual Competitions

The pond in Pšánky is stocked mainly with carp, tench, grass carp, zander, pike, sturgeon, eels and whitefish. However, there is a clear restriction on angling: only members of Rybářský spolek Pšánky may fish in the Pšánky pond. The pond therefore cannot simply be classified as freely accessible fishing water. At the same time, children's angling competitions are held in Pšánky every year. These recurring events create a distinct local connection to the water and angling tradition.

Cycling Route and a Dated Event

KČT Cycling Route No. 4293 passes through Pšánky and provides a specific point of reference for a planned cycling trip. Those planning a cycling tour can therefore include the village in further research using this route number, without assuming a particular distance or travel time. There was also a clearly scheduled event: the Czech Extraliga in firefighting attack. It was scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. in Pšánky. By September 6, 2026, this date had already passed and was therefore no longer an upcoming occasion for current travel planning.
