Prasek – Hiking, Forests and Local History

Prasek combines a marked hiking route, forest landscapes and several tangible traces of the area’s history. This makes it possible to plan your stay in different ways: you can choose a longer route to a castle, explore a nature trail with information about plants and history, or get to know the area through its church, archaeological finds and monuments.

Prasek is served by buses operated by the Integrated Regional Transport system of the Hradec Králové and Pardubice Regions (IREDO) and has four bus stops.

Hiking from Prasek to Hrádek u Nechanic Castle

A green-marked KČT hiking route begins at the bus stop in Prasek and leads via Kunčice to Hrádek u Nechanic Castle. The route is approximately 10 km long. Prasek is the starting point, Kunčice lies along the way and the castle is the destination.

A second option is the Les Chlum nature trail. It leads in the direction of Prasek and provides information on 10 panels, primarily about the local flora and the history of the surrounding area. The trail also leads into a secluded part of the Chlum forest, to a former sand quarry with a small pond. The reference to the former sand quarry is part of the area’s history and should not be understood as indicating a current quarrying operation. At Les Chlum, nature observation and the region’s past thus lie directly alongside each other.

Local History from the Middle Ages to the 19th Century

Prasek was first mentioned in 1312. The settlement was probably founded as a strip-shaped colonization village on the site of a former forest complex. In the 18th century, Prasek grew through the construction of small houses.

One of the area’s prominent buildings is the Neo-Gothic Church of the Divine Heart of the Lord. It was built between 1898 and 1900 and stands directly on the road to Zdechovice. As a filial church of the Nový Bydžov parish, it also serves a religious function: a service is held there every other Sunday at 11:15 a.m. Those interested in the area’s older history can find the remains of a hillfort of the Lusatian culture at the Prasek “Chlum” archaeological site.

Nature and Cultural Topics for Different Days

Another historical marker is located at the edge of the forest outside Prasek: a partisan memorial stands there. Together with the nature trail, archaeological site and church, it offers various themes for exploring the area. The local sports grounds of TJ Jiskra Prasek give girls and boys the opportunity to develop their football skills from an early age. This specific connection to local club life can be an additional aspect of a stay for families with children interested in football.

If you are researching accommodation in Prasek, you can therefore choose the area according to your preferred focus: the hiking route centers on an approximately 10 km connection to Hrádek u Nechanic Castle, Les Chlum focuses on nature and the history of the surrounding area, while the church, archaeological site and partisan memorial offer further historical points of interest. For broader research, you can also include Lhota Pod Libčany, Lodín, Máslojedy, Hořiněves, Lišice, Stará Voda, Ledce and Skalice in your search.
