Ledce: Nature, Cycling Routes and Sacred History

Ledce combines natural points of interest, marked routes and sacred buildings to create a diverse destination. The place is interesting if, during your stay, you are not looking for just one attraction but want to combine different impressions: protected woodland, cycling routes, a hiking trail and churches with a multilayered history. Protected Nature and Distinctive Landscape Features

Chropotínský háj lies in the cadastral territories of Očelice and Ledce. The nature reserve was first designated on 14 March 1955. It protects a remnant of a Hercynian oak-hornbeam forest, which in places transitions into an ash-alder floodplain forest with a species-rich herb layer. Populations of the regionally rare longhorn beetle Trichoferus pallidus and other xylobiontic insect species, meaning wood-dwelling species, live there.

The Dědina (Zlatý potok) flows through Ledce. The Ledecké bory extend south of Ledce and form another clearly defined natural area there.

Cycling and Hiking with Specific Routes

The marked cycling route No. 222 runs through Hradec Králové, Třebechovice pod Orebem, Ledce and Opočno. Cycling route No. 4166 leads from Ledce via Klášter nad Dědinou, Vysoký Újezd, Jílovice, Výrava, Libřice, Lejšovka and Smržov to Smiřice.

In addition, a blue-marked hiking trail runs along the southern edge of the municipality of Ledce through the Ledecké bory. If you would like to combine cycling and hiking, you will therefore find both a specific cycling connection and a designated hiking trail in the local area.

Sacred Buildings and History in Ledce and Klášter nad Dědinou

In Ledce, the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene is one of the municipality’s three protected historic sacred sites. Further historical points of interest are concentrated in Klášter nad Dědinou. The Evangelical Reformed congregation was founded there in 1782; the Evangelical church was solemnly consecrated on 16 October 1785. After the foundation stone was laid, it was built within six months through self-help and received a shingle roof. Permission to build a tower was granted in 1855.

A second trace of church history leads to the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Klášter nad Dědinou. It is a Renaissance building from the late 16th century. Its masonry contains stones from the former Cistercian monastery of Svaté Pole. This former monastery was destroyed by fire in 1420 at the beginning of the Hussite period. The branch church of Saint John the Baptist is associated with Ledce and Klášter nad Dědinou, thereby adding another historical connection to the sacred history of the area.
