Discover Neděliště

Neděliště combines a remarkable religious history with memorial sites commemorating 1866 and an official cycling loop through the battlefield area. This creates a destination where historical details, a distinctive village character and an active excursion can be combined with ease.

Church, Village Square and Historic Village Character

The centrepiece is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Its history dates back to the middle of the 12th century; Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque construction phases can be recognised in its present form. The single-nave building has a surrounding wall and two gates and has been protected as a monument since 1958. The family crypt of the owners of the estate was located in the crypt. It is precisely this combination of a long history of development and clearly discernible construction phases that makes the church a particularly vivid part of your stay.

The village character also includes two Baroque works on the village square. There stands a sandstone cross depicting the Crucified Christ; the cross and its pedestal were made in 1726. Also on the village square is a Baroque sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, erected in 1729. On the outskirts of Neděliště, on the district road from Světí, stands a stone wayside shrine with a square base, round shaft, superstructure and small chapel. It was erected in memory of Matěj Buzek, who died of the plague in 1712.

Castle and Memorial Sites from 1866

The castle in Neděliště is a single-storey building with a mansard floor above it and a double roof. A stone Baroque portal leads into the entrance hall. A park was created in the castle courtyard after the well was removed. These architectural details give the castle a clearly recognisable historical character, without requiring you to experience the place solely through a single building.

The history of the Prussian-Austrian War of 1866 is also concretely present in Neděliště. The cemetery by the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary contains three war graves from this conflict, associated with the Battle of Hradec Králové on 3 July. The three graves were renovated in 2023. Another memorial site is the sandstone monument to Austrian Artillery Regiment No. 6. It was erected and ceremonially consecrated on 24 August 1867, directly at the site of the fighting. At the same time, the monument serves as the final resting place of the soldiers buried beneath it.

Sports Ground and Cycling Route

In addition to its historical attractions, Neděliště has a public multi-purpose sports ground. It is intended for ball games for all age groups, especially small-sided football, handball, volleyball, Nohejbal and tennis. The sports ground has an online reservation system that displays occupancy and enables reservations. Those wishing to complement their stay with a shared activity will therefore find a specific sporting opportunity in the village.

For cyclists, the official cycling loop through the 1866 battlefield area passes through Neděliště, Sendražice and Lochenice towards the Elbe river embankment in Hradec Králové. The route is 33 km long and takes approximately six hours. Alongside the local walk to the church, castle and monuments, this offers a considerably longer historical cycling experience.
