Historical Traces in the Townscape

Zlonice was first mentioned in writing in 1318 as a village with a church and fortress. On Pod Lipami Square stands the Boží muka shrine from 1700. Its history also extends beyond the town: after 1968, it was moved to Zlonice from a site near the Church of St. Isidore in Budenice, a pilgrimage church. Here, therefore, you will encounter not only individual historic buildings but also evidence of the town's eventful history.

Antonín Dvořák and the Varhaníkovna

The Antonín Dvořák monument is located in a Baroque hospital that was reconstructed in 1954 and converted into a memorial. The exhibition focuses on the life and work of Antonín Dvořák and displays objects from his personal possession. The neighboring Varhaníkovna also houses an exhibition about Antonín Liehmann, Dvořák's teacher from Zlonice. From March 2023, the monument opened on Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. and on the first Saturday of the month from 1 to 5 p.m.

Railway History with a Distinctive Focus

The Zlonice Railway Museum focuses in particular on sugar factory locomotives and the narrow-gauge railways of brickworks. The collection comprises around 200 exhibits and collection items, including six sugar factory locomotives dating from 1912 to 1955. In Lisovice, the western part of the municipality of Zlonice, regularly accessible exhibitions and an industrial narrow-gauge railway have been operated since April 24, 2010. This gives the museum a distinctive place among the local cultural attractions.

Baroque Church and Jewish Cemetery

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Zlonice was built as a Baroque church between 1727 and 1735. As a High Baroque building, it has a cruciform floor plan. Zlonice's Jewish cemetery offers a different historical perspective: it has been documented in writing since 1703, while the oldest surviving gravestones date from the second half of the 18th century. The cemetery lies about half a kilometer southeast of the square. A turnoff from the road between Zlonice and Beřovice leads there via a dirt track.

Educational Trail between History and Landscape

The educational trail covers local history and local studies, nature and landscape, as well as natural monuments. It leads through the catchment area of the Bakovský, Vranský and Zlonický streams and includes 21 stations.
