Trubín: Trubínský vrch, Geology and Festivals

Trubín is a destination for travelers who want to combine nature observation, geological history and local traditions. The focus is Trubínský vrch: this natural monument combines a clearly defined geological character with a species-rich rocky steppe. This natural setting is complemented by cultural history and a recurring traditional festival.

Trubínský vrch north of the village

In the northern part of Trubín lies the 4.12-hectare Trubínský vrch natural monument. It is located about 300 m northwest of Trubín on the steep southern slope of Kazatelna Hill. For spatial orientation, both the approximate distance from the village and the location on the steep southern slope of Kazatelna Hill are relevant.

Rock, rocky steppe and rare species

The summit and southern slope of Trubínský vrch consist of basalt (diabase), which belongs to the Ordovician volcanic complex of Komárov. Trubínský vrch is also one of the best exposures of volcanic rocks in the Komárov complex. A typical and well-preserved rocky steppe on diabase, with a species-rich flora and fauna, is characteristic of the site. The mountain is home to the highly endangered stiff garlic and the Czech pasqueflower. The steep southern slope, the rocky steppe and the volcanic bedrock thus provide different starting points for observing nature. Those interested in the landscape and geology will therefore find here not only a protected area, but also a concrete insight into the region’s volcanic bedrock.

Protected areas and access

The western part of Trubín lies within the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area. Trubín is also located within the Barrandien National Geopark. An accessible hiking trail leads from the road to Trubínský vrch; however, public access to the protected area is subject to the approval of AOPK ČR. This requirement is part of planning a visit: if you include this natural area in your trip, you should take the necessary approval into account and not infer access solely from the existing path.

Chapel and traces of the past

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is located in Trubín. In addition, a proto-Eneolithic ditch enclosure with passageways was discovered in Trubín. The chapel and the archaeological discovery provide different points of focus: one concerns visible local culture, while the other concerns a historical trace in the ground. This allows exploration of the area to extend beyond the rocky steppe and the bedrock.

Traditional festival in Trubín

The Pálení čarodějnic festival is traditionally held in Trubín on a recurring basis. Together with the chapel and the archaeological find, it is one of the local features that adds a cultural dimension to the area’s nature and geology profile.
