Tochovice Between History and Landscapes

In Tochovice, local history, the railway and exploring the landscape come together. Tochovice railway station is located on line 200 between Beroun and Protivín; the line runs via Prague and České Budějovice. At one end of Tochovice, a chateau lies in an extensive English-style park, while the cemetery church is located at the other. Historic buildings and paths bearing traces of the region’s past therefore offer different starting points for planning your trip.

Churches, Chapel and Chateau

The Church of St Martin is considered the oldest monument in Tochovice. The parish church already existed in 1331 and became a parish church in 1356. It preserves a Gothic portal and old gravestones; a new nave and a tall tower were added between 1899 and 1904.

The small Baroque Chapel of St Anne stands on the road to Březnice. It was built before the mid-18th century, was already used for devotional services before 1780, and was restored by the Municipality of Tochovice in 2013. Tochovice Chateau is a two-wing, single-storey Empire-style building with a façade facing an English-style park. The chateau and park are privately owned and not open to the public.

A contemporary feature is the Živá voda sculpture, which now stands in the park near the Nové bytovky housing development in Tochovice. Its creator is the academic sculptor Jan Pichl (born 1935).

The prepared U Kolejí railway exhibition is located at house no. 87 in Tochovice, next to the Tochovice zastávka stop. Visitors and passers-by can ring the bell so that Dan Suk can guide them through the exhibition.

Cycling, Landscapes and Historical Traces

Cycling Route 8212 runs via Třebsko – Tochovice – Stará Voda – Hořejany – Tušovice – Svojšice – Řeteč. A geocaching route now follows the former Orlík branch railway track.

The Tochovický kros Podrejžím was a seven-kilometre autumn run through the Džbány forest valley along the Lázský stream. The route passed the Džbánek ponds and wetlands, went by the watermill in Podrejží and the former mining settlement of Kamenná, and returned to Tochovice.

Along the Lázský stream near the Podrejží mill are so-called rýžovnické sejpy, remnants of medieval and modern-era gold panning. The Celtic sanctuary of Keltské hradiště Třebsko II lies on the slope of Holý vrch above Podrejží. Of the contemporaneous square ramparts, which have almost disappeared today, only a distinctive terrain edge on the north-eastern side of the outline remains visible in the landscape.
