Prosenická Lhota – Ponds, Paths and Village Culture

Prosenická Lhota is a place for travellers who want to combine landscape and local history. Ponds and Historic Landscape

Prosenická Lhota has a landscape shaped by ponds. Its ponds cover more than 33 hectares in total. Jelito is the largest pond, with an area of 12 hectares. New pools were created at Jelito Pond in 2025. This brings together an extensive waterscape and a more recent change to the water environment in one place.

Another characteristic element of the village landscape is the protected small-leaved lime tree “Lípa u studánky”. It is registered as a prominent part of the village landscape and testifies to the existence of the village since at least the early 17th century. The lime tree therefore represents a historical connection that makes a second layer of the village’s history visible alongside the pond landscape. The pond landscape and the lime tree thus create different accents: here, the expanse of the water surfaces shapes the space, while there, a single protected feature connects with the long history of the village.

Village History, Library and Theatre

The municipal chronicle of Prosenická Lhota has been maintained since 1922. The local infrastructure also includes a library with 2,500 of its own books, which receives a collection of 50 replacement books every six months. The amateur theatre group Zvonokaplička also comes from Prosenická Lhota and is devoted exclusively to the works of Jára Cimrman. Documented village history, regular book exchanges and a clearly defined theatre profile thus come together in the village’s cultural landscape.

Traditions and Cycle Route

The Lhotecký pětiboj is a traditional local event. The 2025 edition was the 27th and included unusual disciplines. This date refers to a past edition and not to an announced repeat.
