Sudovo Hlavno – Landscape, Educational Trail and Village Traditions
Sudovo Hlavno combines a distinctive landscape with an educational trail, a long village history and customs that remain part of the annual cycle to this day. Those planning a trip to Sudovo Hlavno will therefore find different points of interest here: orientation in the landscape, an insight into regional history and events with a strong local character.
Landscape between Lowland, Forest and Ridge
The landscape within the cadastral area of Sudovo Hlavno lies at the easternmost edge of the Elbe Lowland. To the north, the lowland is bordered by the Dlouhý běh forest. The Cecemín ridge is another important landscape feature in the area of Sudovo Hlavno.
The well-known recreational area around the lakes Lhota, Ovčáry and Konětopy is also located near Sudovo Hlavno. Thus, in addition to the open landscape, the wider surroundings of the village also include a lake and recreational area.
Naučná stezka vladyky Sudy Educational Trail
Since 2013, the Naučná stezka vladyky Sudy educational trail has led through the landscape of Hlavno. One of the trail’s information boards is located at U Písečáku. From Sudovo Hlavno, it can be reached in the direction of Dřísy by turning onto an asphalt road approximately 100 metres beyond the village. This approximate distance remains an important part of the directions. It does not describe a general circular route, but a specific reference point for the educational trail and its information boards.
Village History and the Bell Tower on the Village Square
The first written mention of the village of Sudovo Hlavno dates from 1386. A visible historical detail can be found on the village square: the Zvonička s obecní váhou bell tower was built there in 1905. At the end of 2007, it was restored based on a historical photograph; the doors and windows were renewed in the process.
Customs and Events throughout the Year
The local tradition includes Masopust, a traditional annual custom in Sudovo Hlavno attended by both local residents and visitors from elsewhere. Easter is also associated with several traditional customs. These include řehtání, the beating of unmarried girls with willow switches by the jidáši, and Monday Hodování.
Sudovo Hlavno also offers events with various focuses. Turnaj o Sudův pohár is a family event featuring a historical combat competition between several teams. Novoroční běh is one of the public events held in Hlavno during the year and is attended by both local residents and visitors from elsewhere. As part of the Naše Hlavno project, it was also agreed that children would learn how to weave a Pomlázka. The range of events therefore extends from a family competition and a public run to the passing on of a traditional craft.
Getting Oriented in the Surrounding Area
For orientation in the wider area, the only road, III/2752, serves as a specific reference point. It runs through the territory of Sudovo Hlavno and leads from the Motorest U Čtyř kamenů via Hlavenec to Kostelní Hlavno, Mečeříž and Chotětov. When looking for suitable accommodation in Sudovo Hlavno, you can therefore first decide whether the landscape, the educational trail, village culture or events are the most important focus for you.
