Slavošov: Village History, Sacred Buildings and Hiking Route

Slavošov combines a long local history with distinctive buildings and an established hiking route. In the village centre, historical traces meet the Marian column among the lime trees, while the chapel and church display different forms of sacred architecture. History and Marian Column in the Village Centre

The first written mention of Slavošov dates from 1323. In 1549, the then owner Jindřich Firšic z Nabdína secured the elevation of Slavošov to a market town. Both dates form part of the history of the place and provide a chronological framework for exploring it today. Anyone walking through the village centre therefore encounters not just a single building, but a place whose development reaches back to the Middle Ages.

The Marian column of Slavošov stands in the centre of the village square between lime trees. A small sandstone statue of the Immaculata crowns the column. The year 1765 and a coat of arms are located on its front. In this way, the location, material, figure and visible details combine to form a richly detailed focal point of the village square. When visiting, you can view the column up close and take in both its setting among the trees and its individual design elements.

Chapel and Church of St Peter and Paul

The chapel with its bell tower has a square floor plan and a pyramid-shaped roof. Its compact form differs clearly from the Church of St Peter and Paul, which has a Gothic rib vault. The church is already mentioned in 1350 in the register of parishes of the Štěpánov deanery. Slavošov thus has two different sacred structures close to one another: a chapel with a geometrically enclosed floor plan and a pyramid-shaped upper section, and a church with a Gothic vault structure and an early written reference. This contrast makes a tour of the village more varied without requiring several destinations far apart from one another.

Location and Hiking

Slavošov lies on a gentle south-west-facing slope. The village is also located on the main road from the direction of Hradec Králové. The hillside location shapes the spatial impression of the village, while the road connection describes its position from a particular approach direction. When finding your way around the area, you can therefore pay attention both to the terrain and to the course of the road.

A 15 km hiking route reaches Slavošov at kilometre 10.1 and then continues along a field path to Želivec. The total length provides a clear framework for planning your day. At the same time, kilometre 10.1 marks Slavošov’s position within the route, while the subsequent field path describes the continuation towards Želivec. By considering the route, you can place the village within a longer hike and combine visiting the buildings with movement through the landscape.
