Chabeřice between the Sázava, Nature and Village History

Chabeřice combines a distinctive landscape with small historical discoveries. To the north of the village lies the 476-metre-high Jordán Hill. The Jordán Stream flows through Chabeřice and once fed three ponds. The Sázava also shapes the surrounding area: marked Cycle Route No. 019 passes through Chabeřice and Holšice and runs along the river in the Chabeřice area.

Rocks, Meanders and Water on the Sázava

The Chabeřické Rocks are a natural site with warmth-loving plants. Protected herbs grow there above the railway line between Zruč nad Sázavou and Chabeřice. The Nivní louka Sázavy u Chabeřic offers a different landscape impression: an undeveloped meander of the Sázava valued by ornithologists. The occurrence of the water rail (Rallus aquaticus) can be observed in this area. The sites differ considerably for nature observation: plants grow on the rocks, while the water rail is the focus at the meander. The water rail gives this section of the river a specific connection to a particular species. Below the railway line between Zruč nad Sázavou and Chabeřice, there is also a bathing site on the Sázava.

A former mill in Chabeřice is also useful for orientation in the surrounding area; today, it serves as a recreation centre on the Sázava between Zruč nad Sázavou and Chabeřice below the railway line. The Chabeřický Mill is designated as a public recreational facility in the Chabeřice area. The Chabeřický Mill lies below the railway line; the Chabeřické Rocks are located above it.

Chapel, Bell Tower and Local Traditions

East of the village, on the road to Zruč nad Sázavou between two lime trees, stands the niche chapel of the Holy Trinity. It dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. A stone bell tower stands in the village square of Chabeřice. Its bell dates from 1737, was confiscated during the First World War and replaced in the 1920s. Memorial lime trees stand at the U Ovčína crossroads and by the Chapel of the Holy Trinity in the direction of Zruč nad Sázavou. The roadside chapel and the bell tower in the village square mark two different points in the village landscape.

The older history also remains present: The Jedlina fortress probably formed the foundation of Chabeřice. According to local tradition, Jordán Hill received its name during the Hussite period.

The Zruč route to the Babka lookout tower has a turn-off to a natural viewpoint near the Chabeřické Rocks. Next to the railway station on the route towards Zruč nad Sázavou and Kácov lies an airfield for ultralight aircraft; an air show was held at this airfield every year.
