Semice Between Nature and Regional Culture

Semice offers two different approaches to planning your trip: the protected landscape of Polabské hůry and a regional culture made tangible through architectural history and folklore. In addition, there is an educational trail, a red-marked hiking route and a cycling route with several local connections. Polabské hůry and the White Slopes of the Elbe Region

Polabské hůry protects semi-natural dry grasslands, shrub formations on calcareous ground and extensively mown meadows extending from the lowlands to the foothills. On the summit of Semická hůra, the protected area includes thermophilous fringe species alongside small stands of black pine. Here, thermophilous means warmth-loving and draws attention to the special site conditions of this landscape.

At the same time, Polabské hůry preserves well-preserved examples of the white slopes of the Elbe region. These slopes serve as refuges for many endangered plant and animal species in a landscape dominated by intensive agriculture. For you, this natural area is therefore tangible not only as a landscape, but also as one with clearly recognizable ecological features.

History, Dance and Music

The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene provides a historical point of access. It was built in 1731 on the site of an earlier church and is a Baroque building with a mansard tower. During the Thirty Years' War, Swedish troops destroyed and burned the church in 1641. The Baroque building with its mansard tower followed the destruction of the earlier church during the Thirty Years' War.

Another form of regional culture is embodied by the Šáteček children's folklore ensemble. It was founded in 1985 at the primary school in Semice and consists of two dance groups and one music group dedicated to the folklore of the Middle Elbe region. The groups perform together in the Czech Republic and abroad. Anyone who values dance and music as a way of experiencing a region will recognize this as a clear cultural focus.

Educational Trail, Hiking Route and Cycling Tour

The “Krajinou Rudolfa II.” educational trail is among the excursion tips provided by the Semice visitor information service. A red-marked hiking route leads through Semice and onward to Hradišťko and Nymburk. For cycling, the “Na kole mezi Prahou a Kolínem” route leads to Semice and there points towards Hradišťko, Sadská and Kersko.
