Radíč Between Castle History and Rolling Landscapes

Radíč combines castle history with a hilly landscape, making it ideal for days when cultural discoveries and outdoor excursions can be enjoyed side by side. The focal point is Radíč Castle: its architectural history stretches from an earlier Gothic castle to an early Baroque château. For planning your trip, it is also important to note that visits to the castle are not possible at all times.

Radíč Castle and Its Baroque Traces

After the earlier Gothic castle was partially damaged by fire, Radíč Castle was rebuilt in the second half of the 17th century by Karel Leopold Henegk as a single-storey early Baroque château. A Baroque hall is located on the first floor of the east wing. Much of the stucco decoration and the 17th-century paintings inside have survived to this day. Radíč Castle therefore brings together medieval origins and Baroque design.

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built east of the castle in 1683. It is dedicated to the cult of the Black Madonna, who is also identified with the Madonna of Einsiedeln. In front of the chapel stand statues of Saint Vitus and Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1713 and made in the workshop of Jan Brokoff. Bernard Bolzano provides another historical connection: he stayed at Radíč Castle from 1820 to 1830, when it belonged to JUDr. František Pistl, and hid there from persecution by the Austrian authorities.

The farmyard at Radíč Castle comprises a barn, two granaries, the former brewery, a coach house, an enclosing wall closing off the courtyard to the east, and stable buildings. The structures date from the Baroque period of the 17th century and from the second half of the 19th century. These buildings also form part of the site's historical character.

Visits and Public Events

The access arrangements are crucial when planning your visit: Radíč Castle is closed year-round, and visits are only possible during specially announced events. Since 2010, Radíč Castle has been opened to the public for social events and weddings. This does not mean that a general tour is available at any time. If you plan to make the castle a cultural highlight of your trip, therefore, look out for specially announced events.

Hiking, Cycling and Ruins Around Radíč

Radíč offers several different options for days combining physical activity with additional historical interest. Cycle Route 8132 passes through Radíč on its route between Vojkov and Křepenice. A blue-marked and a yellow-marked hiking trail also pass through the village. Radíč lies in the hilly Sedlčansko region, characterized by ponds, streams, meadows and forests. North of Radíč lies the Kozí Hřbet castle site, whose ruins are surrounded by the Mastník stream. This allows you to combine outdoor activity and history when planning your trip.
