Mašov

Mašov combines impressive evidence of rural history with experiences in the Petrovicko landscape. Particularly unusual is the black kitchen of House No. 10: its vaults and part of the chimney were relocated as a single block weighing 32 tonnes. There is also an open-air museum with buildings from Mašov, an almost 27-kilometre-long educational trail and distinctive rocks at Mašovský rybník. This allows you to focus on different aspects when exploring the area, ranging from cultural history to hiking experiences.

Discover Mašov at the open-air museum

At the Skanzen Vysoký Chlumec open-air museum, you will encounter several historical features from Mašov. Guided Tour A also includes the residential house from Mašov. Those interested in the history of rural everyday life will therefore find a direct connection to the village there, rather than just a general presentation of regional architecture.

Another special feature is the barn originating from Mašov. It dates from around 1670 and is part of the freely accessible Tour B. At the open-air museum, it also serves a practical purpose: it houses the entrance and ticket office, introductory exhibition, gift shop and sanitary facilities. The barn is therefore both a historic building and the place where the museum visit begins and where you receive an initial introduction.

The two tour options focus on different aspects. Tour A is a guided visit and includes the residential house from Mašov, while Tour B presents the barn from Mašov as part of a freely accessible tour. For a stay with several generations, this makes it possible to plan a cultural day with different sightseeing paces without losing the historical connection to Mašov.

Hiking in Petrovicko

The area around Petrovice also offers specific opportunities for active days. Petrovicko Nature Park was established to protect the landscape character of the Petrovice area. The landscape features described include large glacial erratics and rocky outcrops. A Christmas hike in Kovářov passed through this nature park and made these characteristic formations particularly visible.

The Petrovicko educational trail begins in Petrovice and ends in Týnčany–Melena. It is nearly 27 km long and intended mainly for hikers; some sections are also accessible to cyclists. When planning your days, you can therefore choose between a hike along the educational trail and individual landscape experiences.

One such experience is also described in connection with a day hike at Mašovský rybník: many visitors admired the large rocks protruding from the water.

Events and other places

A regular opportunity for an organised hike is the Pochod Krajem kamenů. This event takes place annually on the second weekend of September and is organised by the local KČT organisation in Petrovice. For further research, you can also look at Zduchovice, Petrovice, Trhové Dušníky, Obořiště, Ouběnice, Nepomuk Pod Třemšínem, Drásov and Sedlec.
