Petrov on the Sázava

Petrov combines a riverside landscape, marked trails, and a history dating back to medieval gold mining. The village is located in the Posázaví region on the right bank of the Sázava, 5 km from Jílové u Prahy. This makes it a destination where nature observation, viewpoints, educational trails, and historical discoveries can be combined.

Landscape and Viewpoints

The Ďábel hill above Petrov is 398 m high. An information board stands at its summit. The oak forest blocks the view from the summit, but there is a good view from the edge of the forest. In the Střed Čech Nature Park, a landscape of forests and open farmland stretches north and east of Petrov; it also includes the geometric center of Bohemia.

The Třeštibok nature monument lies on the rocky right bank of the Sázava Canyon and is covered by naturally composed forest, except for the rocks. The Třeštibok viewpoint in Petrov-Bohuliby offers an unobstructed view of the Sázava River. A tourist route with an educational trail also passes through Třeštibok. From the Vyhlídka Třeštibok viewpoint, a yellow-marked hiking trail leads in about 10 minutes to a similar view of the river from the Vyhlídka Hadí skála viewpoint.

Educational Trails and Routes for Active Days

The Medník educational trail begins at the Petrov u Prahy railway stop. It is about 5 km long and has 14 stations. The Střed Čech Nature Park also has a dense network of hiking trails, making it possible to hike and cycle around Petrov.

The Posázavská Trail runs through the area around Petrov along the Sázava between Pikovice and Kamenný Přívoz. The trail has only gentle inclines and is suitable for families with children and dogs, but it is not accessible with strollers. It can also be reached by train via the Petrov u Prahy stop. Petrov also has the two railway stops Petrov Chlomek and Petrov u Prahy on the Posázavský pacifik line.

Travel by water is also documented: canoeists can reach the Pikovice–Petrov bridge via the Sázava. In addition, bus route 444 of the Prague Integrated Transport system operates between Jílové and Davle. This allows different types of routes and excursion destinations to be considered when planning, without limiting orientation to a single starting point.

History of the Village

Medieval gold mining is documented in Petrov; gold was mined in the eastern cadastral area until 1968. Petrov was probably founded in the 13th century by monks from Ostrovský Monastery. The village was first mentioned in writing in 1310. These historical traces add a second focus to the nature and trail experiences.
