Oseček between the Elbe, local history and nature conservation

Oseček combines local history, river landscapes and special natural areas, offering different focal points for planning your trip. The holiday settlement lies on both banks of the Elbe, the central village square is considered the historic village center, and the Libický luh nature reserve begins on the opposite riverbank as a distinct natural area. Local history around the village square

Oseček was first mentioned in 1226 in connection with the Convent of St. George at Prague Castle. The historic village center includes the spatial and architectural layout of the original agricultural farmsteads, which is intended to be preserved. One specific example is the late-classical House No. 7 on the south side of the village square. Its preserved façade is structured by pilaster strips. House No. 3 is one of Oseček's preserved eclectic houses. On the road to Poděbrady, there is also House No. 38, with its preserved gable field and segmental-arched gate. These buildings make the village square and its connection to the village streets legible as historic points of orientation.

Holiday settlement, ferry and cycling route along the Elbe

The holiday settlement in Oseček developed from a forest inn and a ferryman's house dating from the early 20th century. The Oseček–Velký Osek ferry connects the municipalities of Oseček and Velký Osek. A cycling route from Kolín to Poděbrady also runs as far as the Oseček ferry and turns right there. Paddleboards are available for hire on site at the Oseček ferry landing without prior reservation. This provides three clearly distinct starting points for planning your day: the history of the settlement, the connection across the river and a route that includes the ferry landing.

Libický luh and the Písečný přesyp

The Libický luh nature reserve lies on the opposite bank of the Elbe from Oseček. It protects floodplain forests, meadows and wetlands, as well as habitats of rare plant and animal species. These include the Polabí helleborine (Epipactis albensis), the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina), the hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita) and the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus). At the Písečný přesyp u Osečka, communities of partially stabilized windblown sands occur, with psammophilous plant, fungal and invertebrate species. Psammophilous here refers to an association with sandy habitats. These two natural areas provide a clear contrast to the built-up village center.
