Discover Makotřasy: Fortress, Archaeological Site and Cycling Routes

Makotřasy lies in an open valley along the Lidický potok. The watercourse, historic architectural structures and archaeological traces together create a multifaceted picture of the place. The remains of the fortress, the war memorial and the archaeological sites connect several historical periods, while two cycling routes pass through Makotřasy. Fortress in the Northwest

The remains of Makotřasy Fortress are located in the northwestern part of the municipality. The site was first mentioned in 1379 and had a square ground plan, a surrounding defensive wall and a cylindrical tower in the courtyard. Memorial and Archaeological Sites

The local history of remembrance also includes the Makotřasy war memorial to those who fell in the First World War. It was unveiled on September 27, 1925. Thus, alongside the older fortress remains, the village also has a memorial site from the 20th century. Another historical period is represented by the archaeological site: it provides evidence of the earliest metallurgy in the territory of the Czech Republic, including copper smelting. The Na ostrově archaeological site also contains a flat settlement and a square enclosure. One similarity stands out in their forms: both the ground plan of the fortress and the enclosure at Na ostrově are square. Alongside medieval architectural history and remembrance culture, this places very early traces of settlement and craftsmanship in view.

Makotřasy on Cycling Routes

For cycling, two routes through Makotřasy offer different itineraries. Cycling Route 0018 from Okoř to Družec runs through the northern part of Makotřasy. The Green Route from Okoř via Buštěhrad, Lidice, Makotřasy and Středokluky to Tuchoměřice also passes through Makotřasy. For planning purposes, these comprise a route between Okoř and Družec and a route with several place names continuing to Tuchoměřice. After Makotřasy, the Green Route continues via Středokluky to Tuchoměřice.

Landscape along the Lidický potok

The Lidický potok is part both of the village setting in the open valley and of the surroundings of Koníčkův mlýn. The mill is located on the eastern edge of Makotřasy. This connection between the watercourse and the mill site adds a landscape aspect to the fortress, memorial and settlement traces.
