Kladno combines impressive architectural heritage with traces of mining and steel production. It also offers museums, educational trails, sports facilities and places for a quieter, spiritual retreat. A Château and Churches with Their Own History

The Kladenský zámek was extensively remodelled between 1737 and 1740 on the site of a medieval fortress, based on a design by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. The remodelling was carried out for the Břevnov Benedictine Monastery. The Chapel of Saint Lawrence is considered the most historically valuable part of the Kladenský zámek. It was completed in 1740, has an oval shape and a domed vault, and is built into one of the four-sided wings of the Kladenský zámek.

Another distinctive building is the Church of Saint Nicholas in Kladno. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 5 April 2022. The two-nave, non-oriented building has a dominant tower dating from 1912–1913 and combines Historicist styles, Art Nouveau and Modernism. In Kladno-Rozdělov, a service is also held every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. in the Church of Saint Wenceslas.

Museums Between Regional History and the Modern City

The Sládečkovo vlastivědné muzeum specialises in regional history, ethnography and the natural environment of the Kladno area. A special collection is devoted to mining and metallurgy. Other holdings concern the demolished Church of the Assumption of Our Lady as well as geology, archaeology and numismatics. Historic furniture, guild objects and commemorative documents complement these collections.

The Muzeum věžáků Kladno presents six Kladno high-rise buildings constructed between 1953 and 1957, which rank among the most significant achievements in 20th-century residential construction. The museum is open to the public year-round on Saturdays. The 90-minute guided tours begin at set times and must be reserved. A tour includes the entrance hall, an exhibition, a model apartment, a rooftop terrace viewpoint and a visit to civil defence bunkers.

Educational Trails Through Industrial History

The Vojtěšskou hutí educational trail is approximately 2.5 km long and has five stops. It runs through the grounds of the former Koněv steelworks in Kladno and presents the history of the steelworks as well as the main operational areas involved in steel production. The route thus combines exercise with a focused insight into Kladno’s industrial history.

The educational trail “Po lesních cestách do historie dolování uhlí na Kladensku” begins in Kladno-Vrapice at the Church of Saint Nicholas and ends in Cvrčovice–Čabárna. It presents the history of coal mining in the Kladno hard-coal basin, passes the remains of individual mines and the outcrop of the most important Kladno coal seam, and continues to the Žraločí zuby natural monument. For planning purposes, the two routes differ in their focus: one is devoted to the steelworks, while the other focuses on coal mining and its traces.

Sports, Play and Routes at Sletiště

Sletiště in Kladno offers specialised sports facilities and a spacious children’s playground. The illuminated inline skating track is a 560 m asphalt circuit, open to the public year-round and available without reservation. From November to March, use is at your own risk due to possible icing.

Cycle route 017 runs directly past Aquapark Kladno. From Kladno město railway station, the aquapark can be reached on foot in approximately 10 minutes via local streets. The Kladno stop of line 605, named “Aquapark”, is opposite the main entrance to Sletiště and just a few steps from the entrance to Aquapark Kladno.
