Měšice between Castle History and Park Landscapes

Měšice combines a clearly recognisable castle history with park landscapes and a variety of experiences for different interests. Měšice Castle was built between 1767 and 1775 on the site of an original fortress by Antonín Haffenecker for the Nostiz family as a late Baroque castle. This means that the history of the place extends far beyond a single point of interest.

Měšice Castle Park is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and is listed under number 2106 in its register of cultural monuments. It covers 15.24 hectares south of the castle building. Měšický Park offers walks among mature trees. There is also a small pond, which may fill with water after rainfall and is used by birds from the surrounding area.

Special historical details can be discovered at the castle. Its façade retains a clock constructed in Prague in 1774 by master clockmaker Sebastian Londensperger. The clock, with its Baroque decorative elements, and the clock mechanism were reconstructed in 2006 and put back into operation on 1 May 2006. In 1775, Dr Josef Tadeáš Klinkoš, a Prague professor of medicine and physics, installed on the castle roof a lightning conductor described as the first in Bohemia. It still stands on the castle today and takes the form of a construction designed by Benjamin Franklin.

Experiences between Nature, Animals and History

The Hmatová stezka in Měšický Park is 70 metres long and allows visitors to walk barefoot over various natural materials. It leads over sand, gravel, mulch bark, pine cones and freshly fallen leaves from the surrounding trees. Benches provide opportunities to rest and to put on or take off shoes. The Hmatová stezka is located behind Měšice Castle on the left, about 100 metres along the path from the meadow.

The Jezdecká školička in Měšice offers individual and group riding lessons for beginners and advanced riders, as well as relaxing walks. Age-appropriate excursions are available for primary schools, secondary schools and parent centres. Měšický hromosvod is a local cultural event. The first edition took place on Saturday, 6 September 2025; the second edition is announced for 5 September 2026. For getting between the places, bus route 351 connects Letňany, Měšice and Čakovičky.
