Church and protected ensemble

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in a prominent position on a hill above Horní Počaply, surrounded by a cemetery. The church is single-naved and has a prismatic tower and a rectangular choir. It dates back to a 14th-century Gothic church and was restored in 1869–1871. The building thus brings together a medieval origin and a 19th-century restoration.

The protected ensemble also includes a mortuary, the perimeter wall with gates, the gravestones of J. Macháček and A. Březina, and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The site can therefore be understood not only through the church’s architecture, but also through the historic features surrounding it. The municipality also describes the church as a reminder of the period of the Carthusian monastery Zahrada Panny Marie at Prague’s Újezd in the history of Počaply.

Cycling, sports and fishing

The cycling path along the Elbe has no inclines and is also suitable for beginner cyclists riding with their parents. For families who want to cycle with children, this is a specific point to consider when planning: the stated suitability applies to beginners accompanied by their parents. The cycling path offers an activity distinct from the sports facilities in town.

The Sportovní areál Horní Počaply sports complex offers a football field, a multi-purpose field and a floorball field, as well as facilities for volleyball, badminton, speed badminton and Ogo. It also has two tennis courts, an indoor table tennis hall, a gym, a skatepark and children’s playgrounds. The complex is intended for the general public, regardless of age or sporting ability. If you want a choice of different sports, this offers a different experience from the cycling path along the river.
