Village Centre, Museum and Architectural History
The Národopisné muzeum Slánska focuses on village buildings and their furnishings. As an open-air museum, it highlights the architectural forms and furnishings associated with village life. The village centre was designated a conservation area in 1995 by Government Regulation No. 127.
Protected buildings in Třebíz include the Church of St Martin, dating from 1754; the 18th-century Chapel of the Holy Trinity; and the monument to Václav Beneš Třebízský, erected in 1892. The monument was created by A. Procházka and F. Hergessel; the buildings belonging to the museum are also protected. The church and chapel represent 18th-century buildings, while the monument dates from 1892: the protected heritage therefore spans different periods.
The Birthplace of Václav Beneš Třebízský
The birthplace, house number 19, is one of three craft houses that have survived from the original buildings around the village square. It is also a memorial dedicated to the life and work of the writer. Memorabilia relating to him, including his works, are displayed on the upper floor.
The upper floor is accessed from the courtyard via an external wooden staircase with a gallery. This feature connects practical orientation within the building with its historic architectural form. The memorial and the open-air museum have different focuses: the life and work of a writer in one, village buildings and their furnishings in the other.
Rock Reliefs and Educational Trail
At the Třebíz rock reliefs, sandstone walls provide the setting for several historic features. The walls were probably formed by quarrying; carved rock cellars and several reliefs are set into them, probably dating from the 17th century. The best-preserved relief is a Pietà. Beside it is a niche containing a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.
The “Naučná stezka okolím Třebíze” educational trail runs from Kvílice to Třebíz. Its eight stops cover the history of Kvílice and Třebíz, as well as their notable buildings. The trail therefore has a different focus from the memorial or the descriptions of individual rock reliefs: it explores the history and architecture of both places.
