Krepenice – Culture, Cycling and Nature in Czechia

Krepenice appeals to travellers who want to combine culture and landscapes in a varied travel experience. The focal point is Krčínova tvrz, completed as a Renaissance fortress in 1584. The surrounding area also offers cycling connections, signposted hiking trails and protected landscapes. This allows you to shape your stay around architectural history, active excursions and impressive views.

Krčínova tvrz as a cultural highlight

Krčínova tvrz preserves a surrounding wall, two gates and three tower-like corner bastions. The protected fortress complex also includes the main building of the fortress, the north-western building with a gate, the south-western and south-eastern buildings, the so-called sheepfold, the northern utility building, the access bridge and all plots within the complex. This means that the site can be explored not only through its central building but also through its preserved overall structure.

The central palace contains remnants of original wall paintings with mythological themes. An unusual architectural detail is provided by the chapel bell tower: its ground plan has the shape of half an irregular octagon. The history of the village also reaches far back. Křepenice is mentioned in a deed of donation for Břevnov Monastery dated to 1045 and described as a 13th-century forgery.

Cycling and hiking around Křepenice

Cycle Route 301 connects Křepenice with Krásná Hora nad Vltavou and is 23 km long. Cycle Route 8132 runs from Vojkov to Křepenice. This provides two differently oriented connections for planning a cycling tour: a 23-kilometre route to Krásná Hora nad Vltavou and a route whose starting point is Vojkov.

A blue-marked hiking trail also passes through Křepenice. Another blue-marked hiking route leads from Krčínova tvrz to the edge of the 61-hectare Drbákov–Albertovy skály National Nature Reserve in less than three kilometres. Those who like to combine their stay with a hike can therefore find, alongside the fortress, a specific access point to a designated natural area.

Landscape and views

In the immediate vicinity, the Drbákov–Albertovy skály nature trail is seven kilometres long. It has 11 stations with views over the Vltava Valley. The Libešov hills offer another perspective, with beautiful views of Křepenice and the surrounding area. Forests cover 30% of the area of Křepenice, shaping an important part of its rural character.
