Kojetice: Culture, Nature and Active Excursions

Kojetice combines striking cultural monuments with a geologically remarkable quarry and various opportunities to actively explore the surrounding area. If you want to choose between history, natural science and activity for your trip, you will find a range of highlights here: St. Vitus Church, Lom Kojetice Quarry, a green-marked tourist route, an educational trail, and a bike park with a skill zone.

St. Vitus and Baroque Details

St. Vitus Church is a single-nave, rectangular church with Baroque architectural articulation, stained-glass windows and a tower with a Baroque bell roof. Inside, extensive remains of early Gothic frescoes have been preserved. They include depictions of apostles and a genealogical cycle of the Přemyslid dynasty. A late Romanesque, stepped portal with an ornamented tympanum adds a distinctly older architectural detail to the building.

There is also a tangible testimony to the local history outside the church: Kojetice has a semicircular, drive-through Baroque gate dating from the late 18th century. Together with St. Vitus, it forms a cultural focus where different periods can be recognised in individual structures.

Lom Kojetice Quarry: Geology and Water

Lom Kojetice Quarry on the northern edge of Kojetice is a geotourism attraction and an excursion site of great scientific importance. It preserves Upper Proterozoic greywackes, siltstones, slates and siliceous rocks beneath Cretaceous conglomerates. This makes the site particularly appealing to travellers who want not only to admire the landscape, but also learn more about its geological formation and composition.

The flooded quarry basin serves as a natural swimming area without facilities and is also used by divers.

Routes, Educational Trail and Cycling Options

A green-marked tourist route begins at Kojetice railway stop and leads via Lobkovice and Jiřice to Kostelec nad Labem. As a separate option for exploring the town and its surroundings, the Lesní stezka Kojetice trail runs through Kojetice and the surrounding area. The educational trail is more than two kilometres long and includes nine stations as well as an information board at Lom Kojetice Quarry.

The bike park and skill zone are also part of the local offerings for an active day out. Both are open to everyone who follows the rules applicable there. The different formats help you distinguish between a longer tourist route, a signposted educational trail and an area for cycling activities, without limiting your excursions to just one way of exploring.

Local Character and Getting There

The cultural focus leads to St. Vitus Church and the Baroque gate, while the quarry combines geological themes with a natural body of water. For activities, you can choose from the green-marked route, the Lesní stezka trail, the bike park and the skill zone. Kojetice u Prahy railway station is in PID Zone 2 and on line 070 between Praha-Čakovice and Turnov.
