Cítov – Church, Masopust and Sports

Cítov is a place where landscape, historical heritage and community-oriented experiences come together. You will find Cítov in the flat Polabská nížina. Two aspects are particularly interesting for getting to know the area: traces of history and the sports and event venues where the town offers specific leisure opportunities.

Historical Heritage and Czech Traditions

The Church of St. Linhart preserves several noteworthy architectural features: an apse, a stone sacrarium, a pointed Gothic arch and parts of its original Romanesque masonry. This provides various historical details in a single building. The combination of Romanesque, Gothic and sacred elements makes it particularly interesting for travellers who want to experience several eras in one specific building during a visit to the town. The Marian Column is also part of Cítov's cultural identity. It dates from 1713 and is a historic monument cared for by the municipality.

Another historical sight is the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It is a historic monument maintained by the municipality. Masopust with Music and Movement

A special tradition is the Cítov Masopust procession. Accompanied by music, the procession travels through the municipality with traditional and non-traditional Masopust masks. The walking route is approximately 3.8 kilometres long. Residents and children can join the procession. The approximate route length is a useful guide for planning the day, particularly when younger and older participants are travelling together. For families, the communal character is especially appealing: children experience a local tradition not merely as spectators but can join the procession themselves.

Cítov also offers several documented facilities for days focused on sport. The tennis club has two clay tennis courts, a practice wall and a multi-purpose court with a synthetic surface for various ball sports. A new sports facility with artificial turf and boards has also been built at the football stadium. The public multi-purpose sports field is intended for hockey, field hockey and floorball. The combination of clay, synthetic surfaces and artificial turf provides different playing surfaces; depending on the desired activity, the sporting focus can be selected accordingly.

The Cítov swimming pool is another part of the leisure offering. Refreshments are available there throughout the entire operating period; the water quality is checked regularly. Together with the sports facilities, this creates a townscape that places historical discoveries and different opportunities for physical activity side by side without limiting Cítov to just one type of travel experience.

A Starting Point for Further Discoveries

Cítov is considered one of the access routes to nearby Říp, a symbol of Czech national history. This means the town can also be combined with an excursion focusing not only on local history but also on a symbol of significance beyond the region. The connection with Říp thus broadens the perspective beyond the town's immediate history without diminishing the importance of its local buildings and customs.
