Forests, Watercourses and Trails in Hvozdnice

Hvozdnice combines a forested setting with trails that connect nature, river landscapes and historic sites. The town lies amid forests between the Kocába and the Bojovský potok, in the Central Bohemian Uplands, more precisely in the Brdy Mountains. There are four ponds within the municipality. At 397.3 metres above sea level, Babka Hill marks the highest point in the municipality of Hvozdnice. This allows you to shape your stay around exploring the landscape, cycling, hiking and history.

Marked Trails for Hiking and Cycling

Hvozdnice primarily offers visitors opportunities for cycling and hiking. The yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Bojov railway station to Hvozdnice along a forest path. Further along its route, the yellow trail runs from Hvozdnice through Hvozdy and Masečín to the Kocába, continuing to the Askalona settlement and along the river to Štěchovice. The sections reveal different types of landscape: forest, riverbanks and settlements lie along the same route description.

The green-marked hiking trail also begins at Bojov railway station. It leads to Dlouhé louky, past a holiday settlement and the villages of Sloup, via Kejsíř to Davle. For cyclists, the blue cycling route “In the Footsteps of the Past” is one of the specific options: it passes through Hvozdnice. The “Blue Circuit” cycling route leads through historically interesting places in the “Mníšecký region”. This gives you access to both marked hiking trails and cycling routes with natural and cultural connections.

Local History and Architecture

The local history also gives Hvozdnice its own distinctive character. The founding charter of Ostrov Benedictine Monastery is also the first written record of Hvozdnice’s existence. Historically, the inhabitants of the Hvozdnice settlement were obliged to supply the Benedictine monastery with charcoal. This tradition connects the town’s early history with a specific relationship to the monastery.

The Husův dům adds architectural history to this historical connection. It is a modernist parish building constructed in 1929–1930 to a design by the Czech architect B. Kozák. In front of the Husův dům in Hvozdnice stands a memorial to the victims of the First and Second World Wars, commemorating the periods 1914–1918 and 1939–1945. In Hvozdnice, therefore, architectural history, commemorative culture and the older written history of the town can be encountered at different locations.

From Bojov railway station, the Husův dům can be reached via the yellow-marked trail after 2 km. In addition, Prague city bus route 314 serves the Hvozdnice stop. These two reference points help you plan the route to a historic destination and your journey to the town separately.
