Dobříč: History, Geology and Landscape along the Radotínský Stream

Dobříč combines local history with a remarkable geological setting. Between the château, the historic farmstead and the valley of the Radotínský stream, you will discover a place whose character has been shaped both by human use and by natural rock outcrops and old quarries.

History and memorial sites in Dobříč

Dobříč Château was converted into a granary in the 19th century. Another historical landmark is the Dobříč farmstead in the southern part of the municipality, located directly on road III/00511. Both places point to the municipality’s agriculturally shaped past, without this implying any present-day use or a specific visitor offering.

The memorial to those fallen in the First World War is also part of the local history. It was ceremonially unveiled on 14 July 1929 and reconstructed in 1993. As a historical reference, it complements the village’s architectural heritage. The event “Tradiční Dobříčské kuželky” was also scheduled for 23 July 2022.

Geology and landscape along the Radotínský stream

The Tachlovice-Chýnice profile features natural rock outcrops and small old quarries. The geological site has been recommended for protection and includes paleontological sites as well as stratigraphic profiles from the Silurian to the Middle Devonian. Thus, the natural-history perspective in Dobříč extends far beyond a mere description of the landscape.

The profile covers the cadastral area of Dobříč u Prahy and is located on the left-hand slopes of the Radotínský stream valley between Prostřední mlýn and Dolní mlýn. In this context, measures to revitalize the watercourse were described: biodiversity was to be increased and favorable conditions created for wetland communities in shallow littoral zones. Ponds were also to be added in the affected area, along with extensive vegetation work, to strengthen the landscape’s water-retention capacity.

The aim of the measures along the Radotínský stream was to return the watercourse to a natural, widened and structured character. The revitalization of a total 2,013-meter section of the Radotínský stream and the tributary to Štičkovy tůně extends across the cadastral areas of Tachlovice and Dobříč in the Praha-západ District.

There is no marked hiking trail through Dobříč or its wider surroundings. The nearest marked hiking trail begins south of Chýnice. For travel, bus route 309 connects Dobříč with Zličín and Radotín; bus route 310 runs between Zličín and Rudná.
