Davle: Educational Trails, Rafting and Culture

Davle offers several ways to get to know the Czech Republic not only through individual sights, but also through specific routes and places. The focus is on educational trails, the history of rafting on the Vltava, and cultural monuments. Those who want to combine nature and culture on a trip will find various starting points here: One route begins in a park, another at the railway station, while the Sekanka educational trail leads to historical sites.

Educational Trails with Special Stops

The “Naučná stezka Střed Čech” educational trail begins in a park in Davle and leads through the town center. For the return journey, it offers an alternative route with a view of the geometric center of the Czech Republic from the summit of Ďábel Hill. The viewpoint on Ďábel is a highlight along the way.

The Sekanka educational trail connects Ostrov Benedictine Monastery with the abandoned medieval settlement of Sekanka. It has ten information boards; the last one stands at St. Kilian’s Church. The route therefore links historical themes in a fixed sequence and makes both the monastery and the settlement parts of the same educational trail.

Another route leads through the valley of the Zahořanský potok and begins at the railway station in Davle. It is also suitable for cyclists. This documented starting point adds a route to the educational trails that you can include in your plans on foot or by bicycle.

Church, Museum and Rafting

The protected ensemble of St. Kilian’s Church comprises the church, the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, the bell tower, the surrounding wall of the former cemetery, the rectory, and the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. The complex thus brings together several different architectural and commemorative elements in one place.

The clubhouse and museum of the Vltavan Association are located in the Vltavanka building at K Pivovaru 3 in Davle. The Vltavan Museum commemorates the history of rafting on the Vltava. In summer, it is open to the public every Friday from May through September, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. This regular opening information is particularly important when planning a visit within a specific time window.

A raft built using traditional methods is on display in the park on Školní Street below the football pitch in Davle. Together with the museum, this exhibit points to the history of rafting without requiring you to remain at a single museum site.

Ostrov and Medieval History

The Benedictine monastery on Ostrov lies near the confluence of the Sázava and Vltava rivers and was established around the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries. A Romanesque basilica was also built on Ostrov by the end of the 12th century. The Sekanka educational trail connects this historical site with the abandoned medieval settlement of Sekanka. In this way, religious architectural history and the traces of an abandoned settlement are among the different topics to discover around Davle.
