Činěves Between Architectural History and a Water Landscape

The Church of Saint Wenceslas was built from 1730 to 1732 according to plans by the Lesser Town builder Tomáš Haffenecker. As a result, this clearly dated church building is one of the defining cultural reference points in Činěves. The Činěves vicarage complements this picture: it was built in 1711–1712, while the farm buildings were constructed by around 1750 at the latest. This chronological layering makes the village’s architectural history perceptible as a sequence of different phases: the church was followed by the vicarage and, later, the farm buildings. Those interested in regional architecture can thus view the history of sacred architecture alongside the later utility buildings.

Vicarage and Sacred Details

Several architectural periods and craft details have been preserved at the vicarage. The building retains a Baroque roof structure and a ceiling with boarded cladding. The stone monuments also give the local history specific names and dates. The sculptor Černil created the monument with the statue of the Virgin Mary in 1892–1893 from fine-grained Hořice-type sandstone. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk was made by the stonemason Václav Bydžovský in Nový Bydžov and consecrated in 1866 by the parish priest František Šafránek. The roof structure and boarded ceiling point to the vicarage’s historic design, while the statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint John of Nepomuk are each connected with their own origin and consecration.

Zásadník: Pond, Retention Basin and Campsite

Zásadník Pond lies in the cadastral area of Činěves and covers 62,516 m². A retention basin measuring 8,488 m² is located immediately beside it. It is used to retain snowmelt water in spring and to store rainwater during heavy rainfall. The pond itself is a municipal fishing water intended for anglers and the general public. There is also a public campsite next to the pond, offering overnight accommodation in cabins. For choosing a type of accommodation, this specific connection with the water landscape provides useful guidance, without associating other forms of accommodation with the pond. On-site, this combination means that the fishing water and the retention basin are side by side as parts of the same landscape.

Pilgrimage and Recurring Events

Every year on the first Sunday in July, Činěves hosts an old Bohemian pilgrimage commemorating the consecration of the Marian monument. It combines the religious occasion with a local event firmly established in the calendar. The gathering of collectors of historic vehicles is another recurring event in Činěves. For its 15th edition, Saturday, 1 August 2026, from 10:00 to 20:00 was scheduled at the vicarage grounds. The restored gravestone of Dorota Křinecká is permanently installed in the entrance hall of the Church of Saint Wenceslas and may occasionally be publicly accessible there.
