Čím – Vltava River, local history and the recreation area at Slapy Reservoir

Čím combines a clearly defined landscape setting with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. The built-up area lies on the Meredský potok between wooded ridges and higher terrain levels. At the same time, the Vltava River practically forms the eastern boundary of the cadastral area. Location between the stream, ridges and Vltava River

The built-up part of Čím lies in a flat hollow on the Meredský potok. To the north, this setting is accompanied by the wooded ridges of Višňovka and Nad Hesovnou, and to the south by the higher terrain level formed by Spálený vrch and Ostrý vrch. The Vltava River practically marks the eastern boundary of the cadastral area. This precise landscape structure helps you understand Čím not merely as a place name, but as an area with a stream, wooded heights and a river boundary. The Meredský potok is thus part of the built-up area, while the Vltava River forms the eastern framework of the cadastral area.

History and local places of remembrance

The earliest written mention of Čím dates from 1316. In 1316, Jindřich z Čími appears in the land registers. The village chapel is part of the more recent local history: it was built in 1901 on the site of an earlier wooden bell tower and took over its function. Its bell was rung in the event of deaths, fires or other significant events. Almost six centuries lie between the earliest mention in 1316 and the construction of the chapel in 1901.

There is also a historical reference north of Čím whose classification deliberately remains open. At the possible site of the fortress known as “Dírná”, remains of fortifications and a moat are said to have survived. In 1521, the fortress at Čámech was associated with the Netvořice domain; it is located above the pond at Čím. The historical perspective therefore extends beyond the chapel and also includes traces of medieval estates and fortifications.

Water landscape and orientation around the area

For a stay focused on water, the Central Bohemian recreation area at Slapy Reservoir is a separate point of orientation. Its documented offerings include beaches, swimming, boat trips and water sports. Road III/10217 runs from Korkyně via Čím to Buš. Road III/11429 connects Čím with Křeničná. The cadastral area also includes Hrdlička, the largest of several holiday settlements with weekend houses. For your journey, you can therefore choose between a connection via Korkyně and Buš and the route to Křeničná.
