Říčany combines medieval traces, geology and diverse trails to create a destination with a variety of ways to explore. Between the ruins of Říčany Castle, the historic church and Marian column, the geopark and the family-oriented geolocation game, you can shape your stay around culture, active pursuits or play.

Cultural and Historical Sights in Říčany

The ruins of Říčany Castle stand on a promontory above Mlýnský rybník and the former Lázeňský rybník ponds on the Říčanský potok stream. They give the town a distinctive historical character, without requiring you to limit your sightseeing to a single attraction. The Church of St Peter and Paul retains Gothic masonry, the base of a former tower with a groined vault, and remnants of frescoes dating from around 1400. The Marian column in Říčany dates from 1699 and is considered the second-oldest Marian column in Bohemia.

Those interested in the connection between local history and the natural environment can complement these sights with a visit to the geopark. It displays large specimens of granite, basalt, sandstone and limestone, as well as fossils and a petrified tree. You can also pan for garnets, explore a cave and discover fossils. This allows a cultural and historical tour to be expanded with an engaging geological experience.

Educational Trail, Astro Trail and Discoveries with Children

The Říčansko Educational Trail begins at the ruins of Říčany Castle and is approximately 9 km long. There are 18 stations along the route. You can follow the trail on foot, by bicycle, in sections or with children. This flexibility makes it easier to plan your day when members of your travel group have different interests or levels of stamina. Take the approximate route length into account when deciding whether to plan the entire educational trail or just individual sections.

The Říčany Astro Trail offers another way to combine the geopark and the museum. The walk passes through a scale model of the solar system and is accessible at any time on foot or by bicycle. If you would like to combine geological topics with astronomy, this creates a separate excursion option alongside the historical town tour.

The geolocation game “Za pokladem do středověkých Říčan” is aimed primarily at parents with children aged 8 and over. It starts at Říčany Castle in the town centre and follows an approximately 2 km route through busier and quieter parts of the town. This lets you include a shorter, playful tour of discovery in your travel plans.

Choose Accommodation to Suit Your Day Plan

When looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Říčany, it is worth deciding first what rhythm you want for your stay. For a culture-focused day, the castle, church and Marian column take centre stage. If you prefer physical activity, consider the educational trail, the Astro Trail or a visit to the geopark. With children, you can plan the route of the geolocation game or individual sections of the educational trail. If you would also like to include Jureček in your trip, you can reach it on foot, by bicycle or by car. Říčany can also be reached by bus or train.
